SOUTH Dragons is set to pull-off an audacious publicity stunt by signing former NBA bad boy Dennis Rodman to a one-game contract.

The Dragons is believed to have offered Rodman - known for his tattoos, piercings, dyed hair and erratic behaviour as much as his basketball achievements - about $80,000 for the one-off game. The Dragons want Rodman, past his prime at 46, to play in a pre-season game on September 14 or 16 against Sydney Kings, to fill Melbourne's Vodafone Arena.Dragons majority owner Mark Cowan last night admitted the Rodman move was a blatant publicity stunt for the club and the NBL, which tips-off on September 19 in the overwhelming shadow of AFL and NRL finals. "We just reckon it's a great idea and a good chance to ramp up the publicity for the season," Cowan said. "We reckon it's about a 99 per cent chance that it will happen and we'll have Dennis playing for us." The NBL is believed to have given the Dragons permission to play Rodman in the pre-season game. Butit will have to count Rodman as an import and sit out either ofits Americans, Cortez Groves or Nick Horvat, from the game. The Dragons expect to know tonight whether Rodman, who played in three NBA championships with Chicago Bulls and two with Detroit Pistons, will make the trip to Australia for his one-show-only tour. Aside from his ability, Rodman found trouble for headbutting a referee and kicking a cameraman during a stormy NBA career, which lasted 14 years with five teams.

In case anyone is wondering, I'll glady play in a basketball game for their team for 1/2 of that price.
