why, i know everyone will say that he is the better than kitna, but he hasnt proved it yet, kitna had an awesome year last year and he could be in the middle of his prime, he is only 32 yrs. old..he ran the offense, and he was the missing link that the bengals needed the past 10 yrs....so was lewis, but now they will have a rookie behind the center, i think that this is all mike brown, palmer is like the 6th highest paid QB in the NFL and he is on the bench, this has to be all Mike Brown, cincy fans all cry about not paying alot of money for a QB, and when he finally does he is on the bench, i guess we will have to see what happens, hopefully he will have as much success as kitna does...if palmer starts out bad, they have to keep him in and not pull him, last year the bengals started out 1-4, and they ended at .500, i think..so yea, what do you think
This is a good move for 2 reasons. 1st. Palmer has the ability and talent to take bengals to a level that Kitna cant. He is a better qb but long term he only has so much upside 2nd. Salary wise if Kitna has a good season(it wasnt anything special) they would have to give him a big contract to keep him and then they would be back into a situation paying a 1st round qb for nothing, and not giving him a chance.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (bengal042003)</div><div class='quotemain'>last year the bengals started out 1-4, and they ended at .500, i think..</div> True, but on the other hand, they also closed the season at 1-3, when they should have made the playoffs. I think Kitna had a great year, but I think that was all he had. Palmer has more upside and should get in there and compete. I don't have a big preference either way, so it would probably depend on how comfortable I was, as a coach, in Palmer's progression in practices and knowledge of the offense.
ok..ok..i just want to know how do you know that palmer is a better QB than kitna is...i mean he hasn't played in any games in the NFL which is a much bigger step then college...USC wasnt very good his freshman and sophmore year, and then they got good...if you know that he is a better QB, then i want what your smoking.....salary wise, Palmer is like the 5 highest paid QB
slap in the face to Kitna. Kitna had a great year, Palmer should have to earn the job from Kitna, not be handed the job.
Palmer will be a bust in the early part of his career (imo). I think it was a mistake to bench Kitna, but I'm not the coach. I guess there's always pressure to get the high paid QB out there performing. Of course it makes me happy in the fact that the Bengals will slip a notch because of this decision. I hope the Steelers can just eat Palmer up.
Even if they already made the decsion to start plamer and not kitna they should have kept it quite and at least pretended there was a competition in camp because then if Palmer doesn't look ready they could just stay with kitna and not look like idiots for declaring something that wasn't. Palmer has much better skills than kitna it will just be a matter of how ready is he mentally.
SF ---- Palmer will be a bust? Could you tell me exactly how Leftwitch and Pennington turned out after watching from the sidelines?
and as we all know if it works for one QB, it will certainly work for others....just becuase a QB watches for a season or 3 in Penningtons case, doesnt guarantee success, in fact, it has little to no impact....SF said he thinks Palmer will be a bust, and he might be right, its a 50/50 proposition with QBs becuase talent is not enough, if it was Ryan Leaf would be king...
For as many good college Quarterbacks that have entered the NFL and failed, I don't think that my prediction is that big of a stretch. I'm saying that Palmer will not be an instant success in the NFL. If he stays with it and works hard he might be a late bloomer like Rich Gannon. Otherwise I think you can count on a couple of pretty unproductive seasons with Cincinnati. Caddy, there is no "perfect equation" to a great QB.
i think there is a perfect equation take one archie manning and one mrs. manning, one bottle of wine, wait 9 months, and then season for 20-22 years as taste and tada
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BearsFan1)</div><div class='quotemain'>I said he wasnt better but could be better than kitna could ever be, it is all on potential.</div> Its all potential based on what Your opinon? I dont know about you bearsfan how can you talk of potential when kitna has always had that potential you are claiming carson palmer has. Even in seattle when kitna had his ups and downs he had alot potential. John kitna had a outstanding year last season, he was pimped out of the probowl with the numbers he posted. What he did for cincinatti last season shows the world kitna has potential and very well matured in the nfl. Carson palmer a first rd pick in 2003 was the best qb taken in 2003, however 2003 draft was actually weak for qbs. Kinda like this year's rbs crops for the draft is down. Carson palmer may have potential but i dont know if he has more then kitna. Til he proves it on the field he is a project. Kitna proved his worth. If its not broke why fix it.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Bucs40etrain)</div><div class='quotemain'>If its not broke why fix it.</div> By that rational, TVs wouldnt have remotes, Cars wouldnt have fuel injection, and the AFL would have never mearged with the NFL....when things aint broke is one of the best times to fix them....things can get better.....Kitna played well and hes got some potential, but if he had a game breaking arm, he would have been a high draft pick....to say that Kitna ever had the potential Palmer has is ridiculous, theres a reason Kitna had to go to Europe before he made an NFL team...Palmer was drafted because he has arm strength and athletic ability that Kitna doesnt posses, Palmers upside is 10x what Kitnas is....you questioned Bearsfan statement about Palmers potential by asking if it was his opinion....damn right its his opinion, but it also happens to be the opinion of a bunch of scouts and personnel people that know a hell of alot more about football than you or even me, so I would say its a fact, that Palmer has great potential, and that Kitna has just about reached his ceiling of performance.....
i did say i think that bucs, and there certainly was imperical evidence to back it up, for example, carson palmer was the #1 pick in the draft, you dont get picked there unless you have POTENTIAL, so yes indeed i stand by it.
