Martin has to be tops on this list because he is making $13 million after playing just two games for Denver. It's easy now to blast the $86 million deal for Martin, whose persistent knee problems have prevented him from being anything close to an All-Star. Martin, remember, was recovering from knee surgery when the Nuggets signed him and there were whispers that the Nets knew he was damaged goods. But the move, at the time, was widely viewed as a coup for Denver and big-time blow to the Nets. Alas.

I doubt anyone knew.
Does anyone remember the inital offer the Nets made to k-mart?

Somewhere around the 8 - 10 per season range with a decrease but I think I'm wrong.
Only if that talent had stayed.

if only he didn't get injured.
that trade and kmart's injuries have haunted nets fans every since we traded him away.
damn injuries.

QUOTE (Real)

I believe the initial offer was something in the range of 60-66 million?
For some reason 66 million was the number that came to mind for me too.

It's hard to think that KMart's time in devnver has been anything but disappointing. Unfortunately due to the length of his contract, and the injuries that are plaguing him, I'm not sure that he'll be playing in the league past this contract :-(
He's got three years left on the contract, right? Maybe they can come to a buyout agreement next offseason?
I miss Kenyon.
If we can retire Drazen Petrovich's number, we can retire Kenyon's. (Says the 21 year old know-nothing.)

Hard to figure what would be worse for the Nuggets, keeping him or buying him out. He will never be worth his contract. Even he has admitted his days as a high flier are over. Hard to imagine him being that valuable or reliable with those heavily damaged knees. He is the first player to attempta recovery from microfracture surgeries on both knees.
He is owed $59.841 millionover the next four seasons. Assume they buy him out at the normal 75% rate, that would mean the biggest buyout ever...$40+ million if sometime this season. Andunder those circumstances, his contract would still be carried on the Nuggetscap at 75% of what he would have gotten, more than $12 million, for example, in the lastyear of the deal. That puts them in cap hell.
Unless he makes a miraculous recovery or can somehow adapt his game to his health issues, the contractis likelyto be the worst of all time.
(And the deal that was offered in the summer of 2003 was $66 million over six. He not only turned it down but demanded a trade, as you recall)

Looks like Cincinnati native Robert Hite will wear no. 6 this season, perhaps a tribute to the last player with a partially guaranteed vets minimum deal to make the team...Travis Best.
It's why they drafted Sean Williams. Not just for the shot-blocking but for the perimeter defense. I don't expect much from Williams this season since he is three years younger than KMart was when he joined the team, but I do expect a lot down the road.
