QUOTE

Privately, Bryant is still livid that the Lakers wouldn’t give up Andrew Bynum for Kidd at the trade deadline last season. It doesn’t make it easier that Kidd desperately wanted to play with the Lakers, and was deeply disappointed when the trade fell apart. In the time they’ve spent together in Vegas, Kobe said that Kidd has, “taught me a lot about reading the floor, about what he’s looking at on the court.” What’s more, Kidd knows: Vince Carter is no Kobe. “This is something that I will always remember,” Kidd told me Saturday. “This is something that could’ve been. We could be talking (with each other) about, ‘what are you going to do? Are you going to work out? I’ll see you back in LA.’ “But unfortunately it didn’t happen.” Yahoo!

Carter may not be Kobe, RJ isn't LBJ, but paired with those 2 (Carter and RJ), Kidd's play has shown what he can do if his teammates are healthy and out running.
-Petey

QUOTE

As badly as Bryant, Kidd wanted it too. Still, he has peace of mind returning to a Nets team that could contend in the Eastern Conference. Bryant’s volatile early summer of trade demands and attacks on the Lakers organization has been tempered with this Team USA run. He’s had the time of his basketball life here. He’s been on his best behavior, trying to undo the damage he had done to his name. Yahoo!

-Petey

I'm hearing too much about this trade that almost went down. It didn't happen Kobe, Bynum wasn't given up for Kidd, Kupchak made a decision which alot of people wouldn't agree with. Sadly, that's what you get for having Kupchak as your GM, if the Lakers want to revamp their team, it has to start by firing Kupchak. He's made so many bad moves, he didn't make a single big move this off-season when Kobe actually threatened to leave, who could ever forget the trade he made: Caron Butler for Kwame Brown. Jerry Buss should definitely consider getting Kupchak out of the front office, he's been nothing but a failiure.
Bynum for Kidd would have been a steal for the Lakers.
I have no doubt Kidd is going to play at a high level for the rest of his contract. Bynum will never be the type of big man to build a team around.

I'm concerned if I'm in the Nets front office and I read this and see thatmyfranchise playerwould rather play with a self-centered, egotisticalnarcissist on a team with absolutely zero chance of winning a title than on my team.

Nets should trade Jason Kidd to the Bulls.
Bulls Trade: Kirk Hinrich, Viktar Khryapa, PJ Brown
That'd give the Bulls
PG-Jason Kidd/Chris DuhonSG-Ben Gordon/Thabo SefoloshaSF-Luol Deng/Andres NocioniPF-Tyrus Thomas/Joe SmithC- Ben Wallace/Joakim Noah/Aaron Gray
Kidd would have lots of fun with Sefo, Deng, Tyrus, and Noah on the break.
Nets get a young building block, and two expiring contracts. They should get rid of Jefferson in a similar fashion (and Carter too), and end up with 4 young assets at different positions, tank this year for Beasley, and then use your capspace to finish the rebuilding process.

That roster would have been just as bad. Ofcourse it's awesome winning right now for those two but Kwame is no Amare and Mihm is no Howard.

He is older too, so you aren't going to get a team throwing multiple assets to get him. Hinrich would be fair value.
From the Nets perspective, I see it as them clearing capspace, and gettin ga good point guard. I think most Nets fans would agree that they aren't going to win a championship with Kidd in the coming years, unless a huge steal of a trade comes along.
Then from Chicago's perspective, Kidd works. With his size, Jason Kidd works pretty good in the backcourt with Ben Gordon, and he'll be creating so much for Chicago's great scorers in Gordon, Nocioni, and Deng, and then creating for the athletic bigs in Noah and Thomas. It'd be a good fit for the Bulls. Then longterm, the Bulls have to turn to either turning Gordon into a point guard, or making Duhon the long term starting point guard, which might not be so bad.
I enjoy Kidd's play, and as a Bulls fan, I'd much rather have Kidd than Kobe.

Well you don't wanna throw a max contract at an older player unless you think they're worth it, and you want to win a championship. Both the Bulls and the Nets are contending teams, so each team would want Kidd for those same reasons. Had the Nets really wanted to switch gears and go to a cap clearing team, we wouldn't have resigned Carter, and we would have already traded Kidd.
And Hinrich is a good player but compared to Kidd he's nothing. A serious offer for Kidd would be Duhon, Tyrus, and Sefalosha perhaps?

Both have a very small chance of coming out of their respective conferences, however if you were to pair up Kidd and Kobe they would be playing better basketball than the Nets are right now with Carter and Jefferson by Kidd.

I wouldn't call the East wide open. I doubt any team outside of Chicago, Cleveland, and Boston is in contention to win the conference.

They had a good 05-06 but weren't able to make it past the second round an area which they've been stuck in since Carter joined the team. Also, if Kidd were on the Lakers, they wouldn't neccesarily go deeper but would be a better team than the New Jersey.
