Tiki Barber says he would still be playing football if the Giants had a new head coach. The recently retired star running back has used his new memoir to rip Big Blue boss Tom Coughlin, blaming his former head coach for driving him from the game he loved. "[Coughlin] robbed me of what had been one of the most important things I had in my life, which was the joy I felt playing football," Barber wrote. "I had lost that. He had taken it away."
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football...nt_if_tom_.html
Say what you will about Eli and Coach Coughlin, but they didn't pick up their respective balls and go home. They're still here, and they're working their asses off.

If he lost whatever passion because of Coughlin, he probably didn't have that much to begin with IMO.
I thought it was awesome when Eli said something earlier this month. He was right.

I put no weight behind this assertion from Tiki whatsoever. Might sell some books in the NE though. If Tiki wanted to play he could have managed a release or trade. Sour grapes turn bitter when you realize you f'd up.
He's 32 years old, he would've retired soon no matter who was the head coach. He shouldn't have revealed something like this before the Giants season begins, alot of questions on how well they'll do this season after a shaky ending, this isn't going to help much for New York to kick off the year.

Thanks.

TIKI Barber's wife was the catalyst behind the Giants star's decision to hang up his helmet. A longtime friend of Barber says she made him afraid he'd suffer a catastrophic injury that would turn him into a lousy dad. The 205-pound running back is heading for the broadcasting booth at age 31 because Ginny Barber has been "nagging him for a long time - and with others present - that he'd better retire before he has a crippling injury," Barber's friend says. If that happened, Ginny told him, "he couldn't participate in raising his children."

Tiki has succeeded in making me root like hell for Tom Coughlin to succeed.
I used to be mad at him for saying he was going to stop the injuries, penalties and mistakes and shut the players up and make them focus on football - all of which he miserably failed at accomplishing.
Now he has a better coaching staff, and he is smiling a lot more. He is actually personable and friendly and seems about a thousand times more relaxed.
Who knows? Maybe the lack of a viable alternative has helped him survive to the point where he can turn things around.

I would love to see Tiki's reaction if we ever get to see Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning raise the Lombardi Trophy together.
Tom Coughlin will be fired after this season. It doesn't matter if Tiki is "right" or not, it's just the nature of the team right now. The young players don't like the old school approach and the Giants aren't going anywhere this year, so Coughlin will be gone.
It will be for the same reason Marty Ball is no longer a part of San Diego. The NFL is evolving into an "under 40 coach league." Take a deep breath and accept it. In the next five years or so, you're going to see the coaching carousel start to really spin.

I'm not a big fan of our coach at all, but really Tiki. I supposeyou should also complain about how Coughlin adjusted the way you carried the ball and essentially saved your career. How dare him!
I don't think I've ever lost so much respect so quickly for a player that I enjoyed supporting so much (he's up there with Vince Carter in my books).

I'm not sure if he spoke to Coughlin or not. Regardless, he can't take back what he said about Coughlin, and still looks every bit the quitter when he did his whining.
