Yao to me was a disappointment. Thought he'd be better. Amare was not a surprise to me. I got to see him play in the summer league here in Long Beach, CA and he was ripping it up playing with NBA ppl rookies and non-rookies. I knew he was going to be good.
How can Yao be a dissapointment, he's averaging just about the same numbers as amare. He is also on a guard orientated team with Francis, Mobley, Posey and Moochie which means they go inside a lot less than some other franchises. Recently, however, they have started to play through Yao and this can be seen in the stats he has been getting in the last few games. In the last 10 he has had 6 double-doubles, 4 games of 20+ points, and led the team in rebounding in 7 of them. On top of this not only has Yao had to adapt to the NBA, and its tough schedule, but he has also had to learn a new language and adapt to a new culture. In all i think it has been a great rookie year for him and if the progress continues as it has he should be the leading centre in the league in a few years time.
baggaz, I had my hopes set too high I guess but looking back, I guess you were right but I really would like him to average at least in double digit for rebounds
yao is going to be one amazing big man...im so excited about watching his progress over the next few years... i think jay williams has been a pretty big dissappointment....he sux...boozer has been a pleasant surprise...im also happy to see larry hughes playing smarter and closer to his potential...i think jordan has helped his game significantly...rashard lewis is a dissappointment as is tim thomas (although he is starting to pick it up some)... kobe is a pleasant surprise although not really to me...as i've been sayin kobe was ready to explode for the past 2 years...and really started harping on the issue when i saw the new and improved 15+ lbs of muscle on him in this pre-season...he's been amazing and no one can deny this
biggest dissapointment? vince carter for the second year in a row also the whole lakers team....lights out on this dynasty
agreed...the only reason i wouldnt call him a dissappointment is cuz ppl have come to expect this kinda crap out of him...
I think Shawn Kemp has been a big disappointment. I mean fair enough, i didn't expect him to light up the league, but i had some expectations (albeit probably overexpectations) for him to present the magic some sort of inside game. His drugs problems have let himself and his team down.
Suprises: Kobe Bryant* Matt Harpring Amare Stoudemire Ricky Davis Disapointments: Vin Baker Andre Miller Yes, We all know Kobe is a great player, but come on, who would had thought he would explode like this.

SJ can vouch for this...at the start of pre-season i said "kobe has a lot more bounce in his step...and he's much stronger so that's going to improve his range...this is his year...he's gonna break out"...and then he got off to kinda a poor start but he finally got it together =P
