I ecently transferred out of the 'burgh, and find that the only way to watch my beloved team is get DirecTV...Why does the NFL force me to use a service that I don't want to view the games? Is it just me, or would most of America like to be able to choose the games that they watch?
Hey Steelerz! First wecome to the forums. I have a little helpful info on the Direct tv stuff. I used to be a monthly subscriber to dtv. I liked that I got more channels than cable and they were cheaper than cable as well. When I decided to get high speed internet, the cable company was the best provider for me. I told them I didn't want the cable channels, since I already had Direct tv. They told me that if the cable was in the house, they could not separate the basic channel lineup from it. The presence of the cable meant the presence of the channels. I went ahead and hooked up the cable so I could get my local channels without the rabbit ears and aluminum foil, but now I was paying for DTV and cable. I called DTV and asked if I could order NFL Sunday ticket as a stand-alone package, and they reluctantly told me "yes". One stipulation that the NFL placed on them to be the exclusive carrier was that they had to offer it alone, if requested. You won't see that printed in their advertisements anywhere, and they probably won't give you free installation for that, but for the cost of the dish and an hour or two to set it up, you can have the NFL Sunday ticket without subscribing to the DTV packages. Hope this was of some help to you. You might even try the free installation with the free months and at the end of the promo, tell them you didn't care for the service and would like to keep only the subscription to NFL Sunday ticket.
Chip, the only danger for you would be blackouts. I live out of KCs blackout area so I am unaffected, but blackout rules apply to locals (even on Sunday ticket). On those rare occasions you could still choose from the remaining games though.
Blackouts have always been a problem for me... Though since I live 120 miles north of San Diego, and about 400 miles south of Oakland/San Francisco, at least TV blackouts won't apply. Thanks again.
I had thought about upgrading my cable but is not worth the extra money for ESPNews, BBC & Sunday Ticket. I would however like to be able to personalize my channels and get rid of most of shopping & religion channels. That day is coming once broadband is the norm. Though, I only watch 4 or 5 channels anyway. Personally, I like to follow the 'phins on the internet & use my oh so vivid imagination. The local Fox affilaiate shows a variety of teams. Its the local CBS Affiliate that feels compelled & duty bound to assault my senses w/ the Broncos week after week during the season.
Man that must be tough not being able to see all of your teams games. I couldn't imagine. I love Direct TV and will miss having it now that I'm out on my own but I will be making the return trip to the folks house every sunday for the Pats and/or NFL ticket. It is by far the best thing ever invented. Also my mom hooks it up with shrimp buff wings and some mozzarella sticks or whatever we fell like that weekend. She is the best. Oh ya the BUD is flowing as well. I'm just waiting for my dad to get a Keg-o-rator because then it is on.
I just ordered my 3 room DirecTV system today....its gonna be installed next monday before noon....I found it to be cheaper than cable, and for a lot more programming, like NFL Network that doenst come with cable....Im pretty psyched about it....I get about 10-12 Dolphins games a year here on local TV, but my family got tired of missing a 4th of the season every year becuase of the stupid Jacksonville Assuars....my uncle and dad have agreed to split the cost of NFL Ticket 3 ways($199 aint cheap), so we arent missing any games this year....the real benefactor is Bearsfan who just lucked himself into 16 Bears game this year for free....
Congratulations Beef! You won't be dissappointed. NFL Channel is doing last years team highlight videos (1/2 hour each) right now. You should get to catch the 'Phins.
see i wanted to get that only for hockey. I live in PAQ and i am a HUGE NEW YORK RANGERS FAN!!!!! I have digital cable but they block all the rangers game and i also heard that they do block games on DTV so i dont know what to do. MSG splits time with PA fox sports net and i only view like 45 out of 80 games
We used to have Sunday ticket the first yr we got DTV, cuz of the combo package. i hate having so many games to choose from cuz my dad flips thro each game like crazy! But its kool having every game to watch
I am from England and use the internet to watch European soccer games, the site I use also links to NFL games, so I say forget Sunday Ticket and get watching for free http://www.myp2p.eu/
