    This was no ordinary sprain.

When Eddie Jones landed on Rasual Butler's foot and turned his right ankle in practice Monday, Jones heard a snap. He was sure his ankle was broken.

The initial diagnosis from the trainer was that Jones broke the same bone that Grant Hill did in 2000, and Hill has played in only 47 games since.

So when Jones found out it was just a severe sprain, even the news he could miss the remainder of the season wasn't that devastating.

''I talked to coach [Pat Riley] and he made me feel a lot better because it could've been worse,'' Jones said Tuesday. ``I could have had my ankle broken.''

It actually still could be. Jones acknowledged that exams don't always reveal a break the first time they are taken.

''I'm not a doctor, but I'm sure we're going to look at it,'' he said. ``I'm praying that it's not [broken].''

For now, the plan is to stay in a cast for two to three weeks and be re-evaluated after it is removed. If Jones is cleared to rehabilitate, that process might take as long as a month, which would run through the end of the regular season April 15. Meaning, unless the Heat makes a miraculous run to the playoffs, Jones' season likely is over.

''Hopefully I'm not [out for the season] because I want to finish playing ball,'' said Jones, who was placed on the injured list and replaced on the active roster by Anthony Carter. ``But looking at it in a wise way, I don't want to push it.''

Riley was relieved, considering what could have been.

''I'm looking for a silver lining here,'' Riley said. ``The first comment that I got was that it was broken and he might need three or four screws in it or something. We just thank our lucky stars that it's a sprain.''

Clip show just needs a new owner, then they'll be better, look at the Mavs owner, Cuban makes them a better team, and you can't say he doesn't, because if any other team had Donald Sterling as an owner, they'd suck too.

this is good news for the heat a little, now it's all caron butler's team. so caron will mature faster now since it's his team. he will gain experience and be good quicker. btw i don't like eddie jones too much

Get off his d***, since when has Tracy been a good crossover "executioner" I haven't seen him do anything extrodinary to anybody in terms of "breaking ankles."
