i think Wilt Chamberlin was the best i was league leading in points for 9 years (had 50.2 points per game in one of those seasons)leadue leading in Boards in 11 years (27.3 Rebs ger game in one of those seasons)but the big numbers doesn't really make a person better but he still was the best

I also think MJ wasn't the best and also think it was Wilt. But MJ was definitely the best of the 90's by far.

no one else to match wilt at the time? how about a guy named Bill Russell. other greats at that time....a guy named oscar robertson, another guy, bob cousy, a guy named willis reed, jerry west, elgin baylor, rick barry, and the list goes on and on....

Putting guards down that Wilt played against wouldn't really be in favor of Wilt (though with all the times he was double and triple and sometimes even quadruple teamed those guys probably did end up guarding him at one time or another)...but at his own position Wilt played against a little less than 10 Hall Of Famers I think...

ok, well look at fowards and centers,

russell, pettite, schayes, baylor, howell, bellamy, lucas, thurmond, hayes, unseld, cowens, lanier, mcadoo.....

those are just some of the fowards and centers that played against wilt. just right there are 13 hall of famers

Good, you're proving my point even more that Wilt played against a lot of Hall of Famers in his career...as most of the people in this thread have said, I think Wilt is on top of Jordan when people discuss who is the best ever....

Basketball players werent as good back then, the league has improved 150%. Wilt would probably be the equivalent of a lesser Shaq but dominant. Wilt was good, but his competition wasn't that good. MJ is the best ever, always will be.

Are you serious? In a league when POWER FORWARDS are forced to play center Wilt would be able to put up 30 points, 18 boards, and 4 assists. That really isn't far out of reach. Have you seen the competition that Wilt would have to put up with today? Shawn Bradley? Please. The game may have gotten better in terms of wing players, but in terms of centers nothing really has improved since Wilt's time.

mj was great, but i think wilt was the best. i hate all the shit that they talk about with mj. the media are horrible. like mj makes a great pass to larry hughes, and hughes makes a amazing shot on a fastbreak, it's just mj that gets credit. if larry hughes made a great pass to mj, and mj just laid it up nice and easy, it would still be all mj and no talk of hughes :|

I think the best thing about MJ was his desire to win...that made him one of the best.

i couldn't of said it better, Wilt was also selfish his time, he told his team mates to give him the ball, he only cared about himself.
