I don't think Julius Jones as a starter is crazy. Most rookie starters at RB are crazy. I think that Dallas made a great decision by getting Jones in the draft, they didn't have to use a 1st rnd pick either. If the cowboys got Eddie it would be a smart decission.

Hambrick was not a parcells guy, this is not a huge surprise. One thing i believe is you can usually tell if a back is going to be sucessful within 6 games of playing, so they will no quickly if he is the guy, and if not they will find someone, maybe eddie george.

I agree bears, i think julious jones was a good deal for the boys who wanted to address there needs in other area's. I think the guy they wanted was gone so they really took what they thought was best avalible when the time came. I also think eddie george will be cut and the boys sign him.

I think it's dumb to put all of the hopes of the season on a rookie RB, or if Eddie an over the hill RB that still wants money. Hambrick was not a good player, but his salary was not that good either. The cowboys really dropped a ball this year by not getting an experienced RB. It's not smart to put that type of pressure on a rookie 2nd round pick thats playing on a playoff team from last year.

Maybe they aren't putting their season hopes in a rookie RB...maybe they are planning for a couple of seasons down the road. I don't think the boys have a legit chance of going to the superbowl this year anyway, it might be good for them to start a rookie RB and get him that game time learning experience.

Michael Bennett started his rookie season and has turned out to be a good back, when he's healthy. But mind you, he was pretty horrible the first 7 games.

I wonder if Parcell's will make a play for one of Minnesota's backs... they have enough of them.... [IMG]

Starting rookie rbs that come from lower rds work in the nfl. I know that clinton portis 2nd rd was successful. How bout corey dillon 3rd rd.

The list goes on and on. If dallas were to sign eddie george i think it would be a traditional rb by commitee role anyway. It seems to be common in the nfl these days. They also use richie anderson alot in dallas.

Richie is more of a receiving back but i think he can get the job done. But peopple do not realize that richie anderson is A REALLY BAD BLOCKER. Mayben they'll make him a half back

Anderson is going to be more of a third down back this year. I agree -- any vet signed would be on a committee but probably not THE starter. Post first rounders have performed well as of late, and Jones should be a decent back.

There were few premier backs available in free agency, so I'm not sure who we were supposed to get. Sure, we could have traded for a feature back, but the Cowboys were not going to be Daniel Snyder clones who load up for one season and fall way short. They may or may not have a good team this year, but I can't see them being too successful over the span of the next five years.

I think all the RBs in this years draft are going to be very good in the NFL, my favorite picks were Julius Jones and Tatum Bell, I think they can both be better than the 1st rnd picks

RB's are hit and miss. They dont develop in terms of production(yards) the only developments tend to be they either get slightly better or worse or injured, and they become better blockers and learn to pick up the blitz, i can not remember the last time a back sucked his first year and then became dominant.

Jamal Lewis wasn't that good his 1st year, priest holmes sucked his 1st year, both of those players have been great in the NFL

ummm, are you kidding? Jamal Lewis ran for 1300 yards in his rookie season and his team won the Super Bowl....can you think of a better start to a career? and Priest Holmes didnt start a single game so how much could he have sucked? Its true that RB is the position thats easiest to be successful right away in the NFL....its pretty simple, either you can run or you cant....I julius will be successful in Dallas, but Im going out on a limb and predicting that Tatum Bell is the rookie of the year and goes to the Pro Bowl....hes a virtual clone of Portis....

preist holmes was sucessful when he was handed the ball in baltimore as he eclispsed 1000 yards i believe(i will check later) and as for lewis while he did rush for 2000 last year I would still call is a statistical aberration because of the amount of yards he got vs cleveland. The rest of his games he was about the same as rest of career but got more carries.

I forgot about jamal, sorry, but i still think that a RB can be bad his first year and still have a great career
