Tim Duncan has won the NBA's Most Valuable Player award for the second straight year, two sources said Friday. Duncan, who led the Spurs to a league-best 60-22 record and their third straight Midwest Division title, is the first player to win the award in consecutive seasons since Michael Jordan won it in 1991 and 1992. ABC-TV had planned to make the announcement Sunday, a television industry source said. Spurs officials wouldn't comment. On Monday, Gregg Popovich was named the league's Coach of the Year, a first for the franchise. This is the second time in the past three years and the eighth time in NBA history that the same team has had both the MVP and the Coach of the Year. Allen Iverson and Larry Brown, a former Spurs coach who mentored Popovich, won the awards for Philadelphia in 2001. A media panel of writers and broadcasters who cover the NBA selected Duncan in what many observers predicted would be a close race. Minnesota forward Kevin Garnett, the Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal, Orlando guard Tracy McGrady and the Sixers' Iverson were among the other leading candidates. Voters were asked to rank their top five candidates in order of preference. Ballots were due the day after the season ended. David Robinson is the only other Spurs player to be named MVP. He won the award in the 1994-95 season. Duncan averaged 23.3 points and recorded career highs in rebounds (12.9), assists (3.9) and blocks (2.92) this season. Though Duncan's scoring average dropped slightly more than two points from last year — in part because of his early season struggles at the free-throw line — many of his teammates and coaches considered this season to be the finest of his career. "He's carried us all year," Malik Rose said. Congrats tim!! was a tough run in with KG....2nd straight year
In my mind he did not derserve it. he has tony parker to help him and great depth and look at kevin garnett, he has no one to really help him like duncan has.
wally,hudson..yep thats no help ..i felt KG should of got i but duncan carried this team...and was a good choice either way
KG needs to leave TWolves, period. It's not like they'll ever win a Championship like this anyways. Plus, I wanna see him retire with at least one muthafcukin ring.
THATS BULLSHIT.. thats all i have to say. tell me who wasnt more desrving thant Jason Kidd last year they gave it to him... TMAC/KG were both better than him... again they gave it to him.. this sucks...
he did not deserve this award...KG played his heart out while TD didn't have to against the Suns....no respect for TD winnin this award....
Duncan doesnt deserve MVP this year an did not really last year either. T-mac or KG should have won it...
man f*ck tim duncan....even though i dont like kg, he still shoulda got it....stupoid @$$ tim duncan :-x

I dont see why Telly should be well is the MVP.. by the way you cant say that Tim Duncan dosen't look like Telly from Sesame Street....
I guess im the only person in the whole world who thinks he deserved it. Although it was a surprise, I thought KG would have had it. I guess it was a matter of whos team did better in the regular season.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting "TheLakerShow834":</div><div class="quote_post">man f*ck tim duncan....even though i dont like kg, he still shoulda got it....stupoid @$$ tim duncan :-x</div> what are u trying to say? Its not his fault he won it...

I can't believe Duncan won MVP AGAIN! He robbed it from Jason Kidd last year and now robbed it from KG! This makes me hate him even more...
I'm actually glad that Timmy got it again, he proved yet again that he is one of the NBA's finest. Yes Kevin and Tracy are too, but they cannot advance in the playoff's, and that's a part of the grading process (playoff performance). <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">i agree. i think kg or tmac shoulda won it,</div> Why do you think Tracy should have gotten it, he is not a team leader, his team finished in the 8th spot, and he might not advance in the playoffs. Yeah he can drop 32 points, and grab 10 rebounds, but if you don't get that W, then who gives a sh*t.
ok now u guys are overreacting. maybe KG deserved the award but u cant say that its a travesty. if anything duncan deserves it this year morethan last year when i think ev eryoine agrees that jason kiddd was the mvp
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting "mixedflava":</div><div class="quote_post">I can't believe Duncan won MVP AGAIN! He robbed it from Jason Kidd last year and now robbed it from KG! This makes me hate him even more...</div> I agree as much as i hate to say this.. GOOOOOO LAKERS!!! KILL THE SPURS!!!
ya kg deserved it more but i think tim got it cuz he led his team to the best record in the west and i cant argue against that
