Red Auerbach, the greatest coach in the history of the NBA and the man soley responsible for making the boston celtics the signiture franchise of the league, or the "New York Yankees of Basketball" if you prefer, is not out of wisdom yet. When reached for comment on Byron Scotts ill advised and ill backed up comments on boston and its fans: [from the boston globe]A bit green According to Celtics president Red Auerbach, the comments made by Nets coach Byron Scott about black athletes feeling uncomfortable in Boston were made out of stupidity. And according to Williams, Scott was just experiencing a bit of Celtic-envy given his years with the Lakers. ''If he made it, it's just a stupid remark,'' said Auerbach. ''You can talk to all the black athletes that played here. I don't know anybody that is unhappy that he played here. You can talk to the Jones Boys [Sam and K.C.], JoJo [White], and [Bill] Russell, all those guys. They've never been sorry that they've played here. So, what the hell does he know?'' When the fact that Russell faced racism in Boston was brought up, Auerbach continued, ''He's still not unhappy that he played here. What if he played for some other town. The same thing would have happened.'' Byron Scott simply was trying to start somehting. he didnt know what he weas talking about. he never spent an extended period of time in boston and probably always wished he had like most baskebtall players of the time. When you cant be with the best, its a lot easire to try and insult them. only problem BYron, is no ones listening
you can tell Byron scott didnt know what he was talking about because he made a bunch of vague generalizations without offereing any single specific examples or evidence. i dont htink he convinced anyone
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting "shapecity":</div><div class="quote_post">what comments did scott make?</div> just had a go at the fans, saying black athletes didn't like playing in boston cos of racism. the only stupid comment i can think of red saying is when he said he thought joe forte was a wise draftpick for the celts.....then again the talent is there, he's just a dumb kid
yea its not red fault the kid had a bad head on his shoulders. I think Red may have lost some of his passion after bias and lewis died. I can imagine thinking, "gee, for decades i go out of my way to find these kids and give em a chance and today all they wanna do is coke themselves to death, screw it!" the luck of the irish has become the curse of the leprecaun
God! Joe Forte makes so many mistakes it makes my head hurts..all the drug troubles...assaulting people...what the hell is wrong with this guy? Sighs...oh well, the seasons over for now...so I'm glad I don't read any more of those troubling news about Joe Forte all the time...
i thought the most classic one was right after the sonics had suffered a playoff breaking loss to the wizards (typically forte didn't get off the bench), so then afterwards he started singing happily in the showers in tribute to fellow tarheels haywood, stackhouse and jordan getting a win for washington ... then he gets offended when jerome james confronts him about it
yeah...i know one time he was repremanded by Pierce and E-willy for showing up to Celtics practice wearing an opposing teams jersey (a KOBE jersey no less )
if he'd stayed in school a couple more year he'd likely be a top 5 pick - and he'd be a lot more mature. ah well, can't win em all
