Oh yeah... I was a track / soccer / band guy in high school. But I bet I could give BEEF a run for his money these days.
I joined the team in high school for 1 year, but never played. I wasn't really into sports back then. I would have been seen rather in band with SendembackAl or playing chess with Bearsfan1. I have the DolfanDalemeister to thank for getting me into football. I was a budding Montana fan and he helped pour gas on that fire. Dale and I went to a college that didn't have a football team, but I played intramural football all four years as well as any pickup games I could find. I usually played offensive tackle or guard (guess that one aligns me with TheBeef!
I played football, and wrestling(189lbs back then, my how I have grownin my old age!) in high school. I wrestled varsity in 10th grade, and then gave up wrestling before 11th grade (As I got older, it became apparent that I was getting too heavy to wrestle at 189, and too light to be a heavyweight). In football, I played right guard, right defensive end, and kickoff team. I played every down of every game except for kickoff return. Although I enjoyed sacking quarterbacks, my favorite position was on kickoff coverage. There is nothing quite as satisfying as being the first guy to hit the opposing team's wedge at full running speed!
never played organized sports and it pissed the HS coaches off...I'm 6'6" and about 220...no coordination or athleticism, though... played a lot of pickup football and basketball in college, though...along with ultimate frisbee
I wrestled too....220 my freshman and sophomore year and hvyweight my Jr year....not even close though on how I got the "The Beef"....When I was in HS, McDolands ran a special on April 15(tax day) each year where they sold burgers for 29 cents....so I cut out of school and went to Mickey D's with Bearsfans brother, and we bought the limit, which I think was 15 each, although it might have been 10....we took them back to school and sold them at a considerable mark up($1 a piece)...of course they really sold themselves and we sold everyone of them.....anyway, when I returned with the burgers, a couple of my friends knew I was coming back with them, and one shouted "Here comes the Beef!"...and it stuck...
I'm glad to see there are some athletes on this board and not just a bunch of ex-band managers who sit around waiting for SportsCenter all day.
I was also in the Orchestra(Cello) and the Chess Club at various times so I dont consider myself to be a moron like most of my HS teammates....there is something to be said for diversity, so I have no problem with the ex-band manager or the guy that watches SC all day...I prefer ESPN news though, less BOOOOYAAAAA and more facts....
I also play basketball and I think i am going to do track, I played soccer a couple of years ago but never really got into it
Small school so no football, played baseball 5 years, all center field. Had a good time too. This is such a great country we live in!
i like to play hockey, but hardly anyone around hetre enjoys it, so i mostly play football w/ freinds
In HS I played football (O, and D-tackle positions). I played winter and spring track, did shot-put, discus and javelin. I miss those days. Today, all I got to look forward to is weekly basketball or touch-football games with my friend. I would give it all to go back to High school, and hit someone.
I'm your basic coach potato. My only organized sports were soccer when I was a srawny little boy & a few years later floor hockey at the local Boys Club. In my teen years I loved playing street hockey with my friends but I could never skate well enough to get into ice hockey. When my dreams of becoming the next Bobby Orr died I started shooting hoops with my ghetto crew. lol Football came last but has stuck with me since the revival of the Pats in 94. My waist expanded after high school. lol So even though I'll play an occasional pickup game with the guys, it's mostly just a spectator sport for me. It's the calling of offensive plays I enjoy more than the physical aspect. So for that reason I usually like being the QB. Their lack of speed more than makes up for my lack of arm strength. lol
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (DAWK_VADER)</div><div class='quotemain'>i wrestled this year, 160, i sucked tho i was 10-11</div> Yeah well look at it this way. That's probably about the same ratio in which Bush lost the popular vote. Yet he's the Prez. Sorry I know it's off topic but I'm bored. lol
