I respect y'alls opinios. However, the 2 nicest freshmen I seen are AI when he was at G-town and a cat by the name of Skip Wise back 73-74 for Clemson a 6-3 guard who couldn't stopped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Johnson's statistics look the best to me. A lot of rebounds, and an awful lot of assists for college (and for a freshman), practically double the rebounds and assists of Abdul-Rauf. I bet he also did have more SPG than the other two. 31ppg is pretty amazing, though, but Johnson was also a solid scoring contributor. They both have better numbers than Carmelo without doubt.

With the retro craze that has somewhat settled down I have already seen enough of his jerseys on the backs of people that I don't want to see them on....

if you were going just for stats y'all should remember the 30+ points per game that shareef abdu-rahim used to put up in the best basketball conference in the nation that year (argueably)

Abdul-Rauf was Chris Jackson back then...

I'd go with Magic. Talk about being able to control the game.

I thought I'd bring this back up since we've got a new crowd of intelligent college posters. Let's hear some new opinions.

well,I've been asked this before and my reply is the same. It's not one freshman...it's five. The Fab Five. Chris Webber,Jalen Rose,Juwan Howard,Jimmy King & Ray Jackson. In my mind these guys stand as the greatest freshmen in history. There will never be another squad like this ever. People knock 'em for not winnin' a title but that's ridiculous. It's one game where as the NBA Finals is seven.

Nothing can take away from what they accomplished as freshmen ballplayers. They set the basketball world on fire. IMO they are the greatest.

As a Michigan fan, I have to hate you for saying that. There were some likable Fab Five members, like Jackson and King, but the rest all accepted money from a booster that later resulted in a post-season bann, fine, and banner stripping towards the University of Michigan. The Fab Five were somewhat of pioneers, as well as great players, but on their own free will half of that team wouldn't have gone to Michigan. They screwed Michigan and gave them a cheater label that will never go away. Also, I know you wanted to be original with your reply, but this is about individual achievements and none of those players can even touch Chris Jackson, Magic Johnson, Pete Maravich, or Carmelo Anthony.

Well, say what you want but we all know that every bigtime school has used money/favors/material things to lure kids to their school. When they get caught it's all put off on the players and the University denies all knowledge which is wrong.

The University Of Michigan should be ashamed of itself for laying all the blame at others' feet and not accept responsibility. But having said that, the Wolverines may have given money to the Fab Five but it's a widely known fact that all of 'em went to Michigan because Juwan Howard wanted everyone to go. The admin there may have sweetened the pot,but it was ultimately their desire to play together that led them to Michigan.

Like I said EVERY bigtime school has done that and every bigtime school has lingering rumors and accusations. It's not the player's fault and it's ridiculous to lay it soley at their feet.

I know he wasn't the best freshman ever, but in my opinion, before he punched Andre Barrett, Eddie Griffin was on his way to one of the most impressive freshman seasons ever...too bad one incident messed up the second half of his season...

EDIT: I was tryin to research his stats prior to the fight but i couldn't find anything...but along the way, I ran into a few articles that says he punched Ty Shine, not Andre Barrett..My memory is off i guess [IMG]
