ok this is strictly a fantasy thread here but i was just thinking of how the NBA could get more exiting and the best option, tough it will never happen would be to reduce the number of teams in the league so the talent wouldn't be so watered down. So if the NBA werer to go back to a more 80's like format. 7 teams would need to be eliminated. so which ones do think would make the best candidates and leave the fewest people crying in thier absence. I think you'd have to pick teams with good players but dismal records but above al little or no histirical significance in the leage or sense of traditions among the fans. so which 7 would u take away? I think the league would be most likely to contract: Charlotte (obviously) Toronto LA clippers (maybe another California team. they dont need 3-4 teams but its a tough sell to get rid of ancient golden state or dominant sacramaneto. obviously the lakers woud stay) New Orleans New Jersey Miami (Florida doesnt need ONE team let alone two. all they care about is the dolphins) Memphis
I agree the NBA talent is watered down and the league needs to contract and not expand anymore. Here's my list: LA Clippers Charlotte Miami Memphis Minnesota Cleveland Atlanta We should add a list of players who don't belong in the NBA next!
what do you mean have I ever seen him play streetball? I have loads of videos with Skip playing and you're right, he does have talent; in STREETBALL.
rafer alston is nothing special. no one on the raptors is ecxept vince carter and his career is toast (at least compared to what was expected of him). I think Toronto would be eliminated based on the fact that theyd be an easy option being the only team outside of the country. They had a good year in attendance but as soon as the maple leasf become a real team agian canadians will dessert them for hockey as is their birthright as canadians. I'd put eliminate them or New Jersey before Atlanta or Minnesota. New Jersey is good now but they've had a losing record in a whoppping 18 of their twenty-six seasons and STILL have trouble selling out PLAYOFF GAMES! - inexcuseable. Atlanta should'nt be eliminated. they have attendance problems too but have too much history to be ereased being one of the original competitive NBA teams though they've moved around a bit. It would be interesting to see them moved back to their place of origin in St. Louis which is a great sports city and deserves to see a return of basketball
wow, the league would certainly be different with that influx of talent. Some of the top bench players in the league would become towel waivers. However, I really dont' think 7 teams would need to be eliminated to get the talent back to the level of the 80's b/c of the influx of non-american players. More like 2 or 3 I think. I mean, we'll probably never see a Decade with Magic/Mike/Larry again but 10 years from now I think people will look back upon Shaq/Kobe/Mcgrady/Duncan/Garnett as an impressive top 5 to be in their primes all at one time.
yeah i agree rocko220 that 7 might be an overkill. the influx of overseas talent is high, but at the same time i feel the skills of college players have diminished. they are more athletic, faster, stronger, but their overall fundamentals are not as good. the mid range jump shoot is a lost art. learning to move without the ball and function within a team is also not practiced as well. there's a lot more one on one isolation plays. hopefully the NBDL can help groom players better. i always felt the NBA needed some type of minor league system like baseball has. the closest thing to a minor league team is the LA Clippers.
at least if the clippers went we'd get rid of donald sterling - i don't like the clippers, but i always feel sorry for their fans with an owner like that

Sadly, college is kinda like the minor leage for the NBA. Because of that, you've got stupid kids going to college, taking basic classes, yet they have a scholarship because of basketball. They feel that they need college to get to the NBA. So yea. There should be a minor league. Teams to get rid of: Clippers Grizzlies Maybe the T-Wolves
