The Mavericks couldn't be blamed for feeling a little greedy heading into Game 2. They had a chance to sweep the first two games in San Antonio and take firm control of the Western Conference Finals.

Despite the 119-106 loss Wednesday, the Mavericks earned the coveted split of the two road games and return to Dallas looking to protect the home-court advantage.

"Ultimately, when everything is said and done, we got done what we came to do," Mavericks forward Raef LaFrentz said. "We got the split. We felt like we could have gotten more. But ultimately, we're going home 1-1 and we've got a five-game series, and we've got home-court advantage."

The Mavericks know that advantage can disappear just as quickly as they earned it. They have lost twice at home in the postseason and are playing a San Antonio team that has gone 3-3 on the road in the playoffs. The Spurs tied the Mavericks for the best road record during the regular season.

"We set ourselves up for a great opportunity here, and we see it as a missed opportunity," Mavs forward Dirk Nowitzki said. "Of course, a split is nice, but we had a shot to go up 2-0 in a different building, but we let it slip away."

If playoff history means anything, the loss means nothing as far as momentum in the series. The Mavs have lost consecutive games in the postseason once, when they lost three in a row to Portland. They also have rebounded from double-digit losses, going 3-1 after those losses.

Despite losing by 13 points, the Mavericks head home with some positives to build on. For one thing, they showed again that no deficit is too big to overcome -- and no lead is safe for the Spurs. Despite trailing by as many as 28 in the game, the Mavericks outscored the Spurs by 12 in the second half and cut the deficit to 105-97 with just under five minutes remaining.

"I think the second half, we fought through it and put ourselves in a good chance to win the game," Nowitzki said. "That should give us confidence for the third game in Dallas that we can still get back in the game, and we'll see what happens. We've got to be ready for Friday's game. It's going to be huge."
