OK guys....I know you can chime in on this one. Dawk, what do you and some of the younger crowd think of this possibility? For us older end of the spectrum, we are used to the Michaels/Madden type setup and Dennis Miller was just a distraction. Is Michaels/Madden too vanilla to draw in the younger crowd? And does Barkely help in this area being a little bit more controversial?

I don't mind Barkley that much, but I can't see the NFL pushing this and I'm not sure what he brings to the table for sure...

He may be fine. They have always tried to mix an entertainment flavor to MNF, and Barkley may be a Dennis Miller with more of a general sports flavor. Who knows...

if they put him on the sideline, I like it....he can add a humorous element on the field....if hes in the booth, its a huge mistake...

personally they could have anyone they want in there and it doesn't bother me to much....though miller and his jokes you need a Thesaures/dictionary/encyclopedia for were a little much. I watch MNF for the game not the announcers. If its good game or I have fantasy guys going I'd watch no matter what. I think they put to much into who's announcing and what not.

I have to totally agree with Pats37 word for word on this one.

All you need is Al Michaels and someone with some decent football knowledge at his side. The declining ratings are due to lousy games not lousy announcers.

another factor is the start time...i can only finish watching about 2-3 games each season because i am on east coast time...a lot of times i will pass on watching because i need to get up the next morning and don't want to chance getting too involved to turn it off...i know they say earlier starts exclude the west coast, but it would seem that it is better for some to miss the first quarter and watch the rest of the game, than it is for so many to miss the end because it is FRIGGIN' 1 O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING....

as for barkley, i personally don't like some of the things i have heard he has said, but i haven't listened to him much because i don't watch the nba, so, i'd at least give him a listen...

I acctually liked Dennis Miller. But for me, it doesnt really matter who the announcer it. A lot of times I am in a bar, so I dont get to hear the commentary anyway. Good games make good rating, and vise-versa. Barkley as a side-line reporter would be good, in the studio not so good. I am sure they can find a football player that could provide good play-by-play. Maybe Deion??

You're right about the declining ratings. They've been struggling to create 17 matchups that live up to prime-time expectations. A matchup that may look good in May sometimes ends up a snoozer in November. The first week is always the easiest since no starting QB's or RB's have been injured yet.

As for who I think would make a good sidekick for Michaels, I would like to hear someone more animated. Color commentary is supposed to be just that, and Madden often puts me to sleep with his nonchalant way of speaking. What if they put J.T. "The Brick" in the booth with 10 cups of coffee?!?! That would be awesome. They need somebody who is really fired up, loud, and in your face.

I think barklay should stick to basketball, he is funny but not a football guy, i thought miller was good and never needed to research his jokes. He was just plain funny. I think deion would be perfect for that booth

I'd like to see Al Michaels and Chris Berman call MNF.

JT is an absolute clown and a homer who see's everything through whatever color glasses he is wearing that day. The guy is useless as far as I'm concerned and I can even say I dislike him more than Jim Rome which is hard for me to say. If he was on MNF I'd have to turn the volume down or my ears may start bleeding from all the crap being forced in.

Miller was funny sometimes but if you didn't take literature in college some of his obscure jokes make no sense at all and I guarentee the avg. NFL fan isn't an english major.

Berman is pretty annoying! Hey lets get Carrot Top (jk) I watch until the 3rd by then i am dead. Make it more appealing by starting at atmost 8:30 so it ends around what 12! That is still a little overboard. Barkley stick to b'ball. W/O him that sport is even more boring to watch

Carrot Top! LOL! That's the best one yet! Wait, no, I'd end up throwing the TV out the window after ten minutes of his squeaky babble.

How about Jesse The Body Ventura? He was great as a wrestling reporter long ago. He has a great, booming voice and is very well spoken.

Hey Kenn, I'm a big Berman fan as well, but I think we are a minority here. I know DolfanDale gets a kick out of him too.

Yeah, I'm a Berman fan. I don't want to see him leave Primetime to do MNF. I like the Michaels and Madden combo and don't see why the NFL is trying to fix what isn't broken. If there are two guys that I would like to see calling NFL games, it would be Bob Griese (duh!) and Pat Haden. I enjoy their expertise.

Hey, I think Berman is OK too. Anyone can get "too much" depending on the day, but he's entertaining for me. But I agree that he shouldn't go to MNF. I like the team now.

I like Madden for that matter but most people don't. Sure he says something stupidly weird stuff, but that's just part of the charm for me. Of course, I love the old Casey Stengel quotes too.

madden's commentary is equal to and 80's Schwarzenegger film. Terribly put together but somehow appealing. I love 80's action films for the everything that is bad about them from the horrible special effects to that terrible one liners. Which is basicly equivalent to Maddens x's and o's and some of his famoums noises like POP. They both just make me laugh.

"Now here's a guy.... Brett Favre.... blah blah blah... Brett Favre..." I like 80's Action Flicks as well, but Madden is more like a B movie starring Rutger Hauer...

So long as they don't bring back Boomer, I could live with most choices for the job of color commentary. Boomer was so boring that even Christopher Reeves got up and walked out.
