    Michael Olowakandi
    Alonzo Mourning
    Nesterovic
    Jermaine O'Neal
    Brad Miller
    Samaki Walker

Who should the Mavs sign? I say out of all those...Nesterovic...more rebounds...more inside game....JO is a potential for SA....

They should aim for JO, but I don't think they'll get him. Olowokandi could be good.. the Clips kinda ruined him. He needs to go somewhere where the crowd won't boo him

If I was one of those FA's, I wouldnt want to go to Dallas. Who would want to play behind Dirk. I dont think dallas will get n e one good.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram: "Ladies and gentlemen, the starting lineup for your 2003-04 Dallas Mavericks! At point guard, Steve Nash! At shooting guard, Michael Finley! At small forward, Dirk Nowitzki! At power forward, Jermaine O'Neal! And at center, Alonzo Mourning!"

LoL I just found that article but you posed it but here is the full article

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">DALLAS - Ladies and gentlemen, the starting lineup for your 2003-04 Dallas Mavericks!

At point guard, Steve Nash! At shooting guard, Michael Finley! At small forward, Dirk Nowitzki! At power forward, Jermaine O'Neal! And at center, Alonzo Mourning!

Before you go Humble Billy Hayes on me, first things first. Another transaction must be completed before the above scenario can advance from pipe dream to plan.

And the coach of the Mavericks, Don Nelson!

The franchise's most successful season. A bitter playoff loss. A head coach in limbo.

The Mavericks have been at this crossroads before.

Then, in the summer of 1987, a frustrated Dick Motta retired. Now, in the summer of 2003, we're all assuming (fingers crossed) a frustrated Nelson won't do the same.

When Nelson returns Saturday from making birdies and gulping beers in Maui, owner Mark Cuban will reward him with a three-year head coaching contract to run concurrently with the three years remaining on his general manager deal. That hurdle cleared, the Mavs can start packing for their desired summer destination:

The exclusive vacation hot spot known as BIGGER AND MORE ATHLETIC.

Booking O'Neal and Mourning can take the Mavericks there. Close your eyes and imagine the possibilities. Mourning bumping-and-grinding down low against Tim Duncan without a double-team in sight. O'Neal giving fits to that other O'Neal, or matching moves with Chris Webber. Nowitzki given the luxury of playing small forward. Shawn Bradley never sniffing the court.

Amazing how the fourth-quarter debacle in Game 6 against the Spurs starts to melt away.

And the best part? It's more reality than rambling.

Even though they are $40 million over the league's salary cap, the Mavs are armed with two cap exceptions, tradable commodities on their roster and a long list of options for the start of free agency July 1. On that list are players such as Utah's Karl Malone, Minnesota's Rasho Nesterovic, the Clippers' Lamar Odom, New Orleans' P.J. Brown and Atlanta's Theo Ratliff. But make no mistake, those are secondary to the Mourning-O'Neal Plan A.

Landing Mourning is simple, if not easy. The former All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year has missed basically two of the past three seasons with a kidney disorder, but doctors have cleared him to play. The 6-foot-10, 261-pound center will give his Heat the first chance to sign him, but the lure of a possible championship and the Mavericks' $4.9 million exception should be a viable option. Before ever suiting up, the 33-year-old Mourning -- with his ferocious low-post presence -- would become the best center in Mavericks history, topping a laughable list peaked by none other than James Donaldson.

Acquiring O'Neal is more tricky and more costly -- in the form of Nick Van Exel. He was the Mavericks' best player on the court and its best leader in the locker room in the playoffs. But sometimes you have to take one step back to take two forward. The Mavericks will seriously consider sending Van Exel and Avery Johnson to the Pacers for O'Neal and reserve forward Austin Croshere.

The 24-year-old O'Neal, a 6-11, 242-pound All-Star who averaged 20.8 points and 10.3 rebounds this season, is a free agent, forcing the Pacers to consider sign-and-trade deals out of fear of losing him without compensation. Van Exel would fill a point guard weakness that had the Pacers signing Tim Hardaway as emergency caulking for the playoffs.

Said Cuban recently, "There are definitely some interesting sign-and-trade possibilities out there."

Adding a superior interior without breaking up the Big Three would make the Nelson/Cuban team the early favorite for executive of the year. A coach with a brain only slightly smarter than the guts of Sammy Sosa's bat could find ways to win with the new lineup, which would top Sacramento for the league's best starting five.

The Mavericks probably wouldn't start 14-0, might not win 60 games and wouldn't be as visually stimulating. But come late May -- when style gives way to substance -- Dallas would have all legitimate scoring threats at all five positions.

The Mavericks' puzzle is tantalizingly close to completion. One coach here, two big men there and, voila, a parade around American Airlines Center.

At this same tenuous stage 16 summers ago, the Mavericks' door to a dynasty was similarly ajar.

    Motta walked out.

Here's hoping Nellie (and two new "bigger and more athletic" friends) walk in.

Well, even though he is the star--he'd probably be willing to share the spotlight if their team was winning, too...I would.

I thing that ZO is the best big man for DALLAS. They would run tho the west but they would have HELL with ORLANDO if we can land JERMAINE O'NEAL and keep DREW GOODEN, PAT GARRITY and GORDAN GIRICEK at the same time. If both of those teams get their big man they will be gone at it in the NBA finals take you pick who do you think will win, my money is on my MAGIC [IMG]

    GO MAGIC!!!!!!!!
