According to www.espn.com they have. That's weird. http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2003/0530/1561275.html <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Friday, May 30 Carlisle fired after two seasons with Pistons -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPN.com news services Fifty victories. A spot in the Eastern Conference finals. It just was not enough to earn a third season in Detroit. Rick Carlisle has been fired as head coach of the Pistons after two seasons, he told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher late Friday. Carlisle's Pistons went 50-32 this season, the best record in the East. Detroit advanced to the conference finals before getting swept by the Nets. Carlisle's impressive resume with the Pistons also includes an NBA Coach of the Year award for the 2001-2002 season, his first season in Detroit. Carlisle, 42, had one year remaining on his contract for $2 million. The Pistons decided they did not want to give him an extension. The Pistons have not scheduled a news conference, but Carlisle's agent said Carlisle intends to meet with the media on Saturday. Carlisle said he doesn't know if he wants to pursue another coaching position or return to television. The Pistons are reportedly interested in former 76ers coach Larry Brown.</div>
terrible terible move. the guy is one year removed from a title. hes the whole reason that tedam works. they may struggle to do what they did this year withot him
i have no idea what the pistons are thinking here? maybe they want good old doug collins back on the bench coaching the team. if chauncey and wallace were not hurt the pistons might be representing the east right now. and next season they will be even better with tayshaun prince playing a bigger role, the addition of darko, and a solid free agent. maybe the chuck daly or bill laimbeer rumors will emerge now. very very strange decision.
Yes I must admit that the decision isn't a smart one for the Pistons. Carlisle is one year removed from being the Coach of the Year, He had the least talented team by far of the final for teams left in the NBA Play-offs. He didn't have a legit offensive weapon, I've seen middle school players with more of an offensive game then Ben Wallace, they chose the wrong person for the fall guy on a team that didn't need a fall guy at all. I really hope Larry Brown, JVG, and all the other top flight coaches don't touch Detroit and they are stuck with some unknown who isn't going to make them any better than when then started.
very sad to see him go..i don't know what joe is thinking here.Rick has done such a great job here for the two seasons.Shocking that he has been fired.Joe dumars has made alot of decisions over the years and all of them have been good ones and have come off well so i hope he has done the right thing here again. It's reported we are going after Larry Brown.Wouldn't be a abd move...i'm not going to doubt this move by joe..as every move has made has been great ones..and i feel he has a pain behind this <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I really hope Larry Brown, JVG, and all the other top flight coaches don't touch Detroit and they are stuck with some unknown who isn't going to make them any better than when then started</div> Trust me..joe dumars wouldn't of this done this unless he knew who we had line-up that would do better..joe has never been wrong before.
another terrible coaching release this year....first Silas then Carlisle....it'd be interesting to see which coach goes where....
Been reported joe dumars fired rick because he wanted to get larry brown...and seems very interesting in the job..but who wouldn't want the job? one of the top east teams and having the 2nd pick...brown would be crazy to turn the deal down
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting "raptors21":</div><div class="quote_post">who will replace him maybe the raptors can get carlisle I hope they dont get keven o neil</div> You are getting o'neil..can't afford carlisle....sixers might well get rick as coach..brown to pistons..how weird will that be next season and i have to say kevin was the guy behind the pistons defence..not rick..
brown will go to Pistons if that's the case cuz that's what the rumor said on ESPN....boy don't i love ESPN....
Joe Dumars is setting up a press conference at 12.00 i believe.. Be interested to see what joe has to say..
Another released coach! Damn, Now theres 8 spots open? 4 great coaches? that was a very dumb move by Detroit.
Rick was the real coach of the year last year . . . . The pistons have reached a new level of gayness, congratulations
that was a stupid move could nt keven o neil take over for carlisle I hope the raptors get one of them.
No he won't...Kevin will be head coach at the raptors....carlisle will go to someone like philly or hornets... joe wouldn't of done this unless he knew who he would get..so i expect brown or silas here next year..
What Rick is fired Maybe it's because he doesnt play young guys much. Hopefully we get Larry Brown. He's not a real vocal coach and I think thats what Joe Dumars wants.
