i know it's a gutsy prediction, but i think that they will be in the playoffs for the 2003-2004 season. they have a very nice young team, everyone will improve next season. if it wasn't for their 0-14 start last year, they woulda been pretty good this year(not playoffs, but definetely, not #2 draft pick) they have young talent(don't know how they are gonna make the lineup) pg-jason williams sg-mike miller sf-shane battier pf-stromile swift c-pau gasol with wesley person, earl watson, lorenzen wright on their bench. when it happens, i told u guys first
No way in hell... in the east..maybe but they have no chance in the loaded west rockets, sonics, warriors will be all fighting for the 8th spot next year..memphis will do well to get ahead of 1 of these teams... the only team that made it this year won't make it next year..them being the jazz
This will be their lineup - PG - Jason Williams/Earl Watson/Brevin Knight SG - Wesley Person/<font color="red">Michael Dickerson</font>/Wade or Pietrus SF - Mike Miller/Shane Battier/Chris Owens PF - Pau Gasol/Stromile Swift/Ryan Humphrey/Robert Archibald C - Lorenzen Wright/27th pick/Czezary Trybanski I think they will make the playoffs too. It isn't that gutsy. Jeff Van Gundy predicted the same thing. The Grizzlies are deep. The only reason they didn't make the playoffs this year was because Hubbie Brown didn't come in until a fourth of the season was over. When he came in they had no wins. They finished off the season with their alltime best record. Don't be scared that Lorenzen can't cut it at Center either. People either don't know him or they doubt he can do much, but he really is an efficient Center. In 2002 he lead the league in rebounding for more than half the season and last year he led the Grizzlies in rebounding. People doubt Wesley Person too, but he lead the league in 3 PT% for 99% of the year last season and he came in a close second in the 3 PT Shooting contests. The only way that Person will bench is if Michael Dickerson comes back. Dickerson used to be our second option over Bibby. And he was our first option for half of our first season in Memphis. Dickerson is expected to either start playing at the beginning of the season with his injury still nagging him, or he will come in 25 or so games into the season at full form to take Person's starting job.
they won't make it. they're in the western conference. i have no idea how memphis tennessee is in the west, but that's the way it is.
yea i agree and think the grizz are capable of making a playoff run next year, ive said that for a while now though Jason Williams is actually maturing into a leader under Brown and that is what the team needs, if JWill plays good and under control they are a playoff team
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting "go_duke21":</div><div class="quote_post"> Jason Williams is actually maturing into a leader under Brown and that is what the team needs, if JWill plays good and under control they are a playoff team</div>12.1ppg, 8.3 apg (2nd in the NBA), in 31mpg. Not too bad.
the only way the grizzlies make the playoffs in the west is if a bunch of stars get injured. i heard they are trying to be re-located to the east when charlotte joins the league. apparently the new orleans hornets and memphis grizzles would switch divisions. the grizzlies have a nice team, but they just don't have the talent or consistency to beat out the top 10 or 11 teams in the west. mike miller and jason williams don't show up every night and mike miller is always getting injured. pau gasol is solid, but other than him the grizzlies don't really have another go to player. and they are one of the worst defensive teams in the league allowing an average of 100ppg to the opposition. i'm also concerned if hubie brown has the energy to coach a losing team. he is a great teacher of the game, but he's old, and old people don't have patience to teach when their players are not making the effort to learn and improve.
It really is 50/50 at this point, lets see what Jerry does in the draft and the rest of this offseason
not that i dont like the grizzlies, but they arent gonna be makin the playoffs next year for sure, and probably not anytime soon. someone said theyre deep, well not really. other than pau, they have no one even near star status on their team, their players are young, but for a young team they arent even very exciting. williams had a solid year last year, but he's not gonna take them anywhere. mike miller could average 16 for them but big deal, and he'll probably be hurt a lot anyway. swift is always up and down and he'll be lucky to be with the grizzlies for all of next year. wright is good for his size but he doesnt get great stats every game and he's injury prone too. battier is solid but unspectacular. dickerson will be lucky to ever play again. earl watson isnt gonna do anything big. the only one on their team that is really good is pau. and hubie brown. so unless everthing falls into place and they get some great draft players somehow, they will be lucky to get 35 wins, they might go 30-52.
i personally think they are a very exciting team, any team with jwill on it is exciting, throwing alley oops to stro, who slams them down. i respect u're opinion snownation, i figured most people would be like that, but grizzlies making the playoffs is my opinion. you never know.

I was going to say the exact same thing.
I know this is an old topic, but its funny looking at this and realizing that not only did they make the playoffs, but they won 50 games

Check out this article I wrote recently on how Jerry West came in, took all the credit from Billy Knight, and then dismantled this team.

Never, and I mean NEVER, give Gators any reason to boast. Now he's gonna come in here thinking he's the king of JustBBall.

Funny, Billy Knight is building the Hawks in a very similar way that he did to Memphis.
