<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The New Orleans Hornets announced today that they have hired Tim Floyd as the team’s new head coach. Floyd becomes the sixth head coach in franchise history and inherits a team that went 47-35 last season. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released. “This is truly a dream situation for me," said Floyd. “To be given the opportunity to coach a team with loads of talent and potential, great owners, a top-notch basketball staff and unbelievable fans, and do it in the city I call home is just better than anything I could have imagined.” Floyd joins the Hornets after serving as head coach of the Chicago Bulls for over three seasons. The Bulls compiled an overall record of 49-190 (.205) under Floyd despite a young roster and a high turnover rate among players (26 of the 36 players Floyd coached while in Chicago were no longer playing in the NBA a year after the end of Floyd’s tenure). Floyd resigned as head coach of the Bulls on Dec. 24, 2001, 25 games into the 2001-02 season. “We are convinced that Tim is the perfect fit and the right coach to take our team to the next level," said Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Bob Bass. “He thoroughly impressed us with his NBA experience and the ideas and coaching philosophies he shared with us during the interview process and we have no doubt that he will continue to impress us when the team takes the floor next season.” Prior to joining the Bulls, Floyd built an impressive r?sum? at the collegiate level. Floyd led his teams to a 243-130 (.651) overall record and five NCAA Tournament appearances over 12 seasons at three different schools. Three of those tournament appearances came during his stint at Iowa State (1994-1998), where he compiled an 81-47 (.633) record over four seasons and was named Big Eight Coach of the Year and Associated Press National Coach of the Year Runner-Up in 1996. Floyd may best be known to Hornets fans as the former head coach for the University of New Orleans, where he led the Privateers to a 127-58 (.686) record. Under his leadership, UNO won four conference regular season championships and made five postseason tournament appearances (two NCAA and three NIT Tournament berths). Floyd was twice named coach of the year (American South Coach of the Year in 1989 and Sun Belt Coach of the Year in 1993) while at UNO and became one of only three NCAA coaches to win four league titles in his first five years at a school. “The people of New Orleans already know that Tim is a class act both on the court and off,” said Majority Owner and Managing General Partner George Shinn. “When we began this process, we promised our fans that we would do everything possible to bring a championship-caliber team to New Orleans. You can see that Tim has the passion and enthusiasm to lead our team towards fulfilling that promise.” Floyd’s first experience as a head coach came at the University of Idaho from 1986-88. Prior to that, he served nine years as an assistant coach at the University of Texas-El Paso. He began his coaching career as a student assistant at Louisiana Tech during the 1976-77 season. </div> I can't believe the Hornets fired Silas for this guy  as coach of the bulls floyd's team record over 3 years was only 49-190 (.205)
that's so frickin stupid. they said they wanted him for his nba experience. after he resigned, he was shunned by everyone in chicago. maybe because he coached in Nwalins
I have no idea why...but I respect that they chose him cause he has NBA experience...however...where are the REAL techniques and skills of coaching he has? I haven't seen him had a really really good game (hmm--except for that time when Sonics had a close game against the Bulls--that was scary...)...wait he was the Bulls coach this year or last years season? If he did resign last year, then he did nothing this year? Wow, sheesh. I think that Paul Silas is a good coach and will influence the Cavs with Lebron coming in, BIG TIME...maybe they'll step up to the plate.

they went from good to worse in a matter of weeks....sad to see them fire Silas for this chump....good luck NO...

I'm kinda hoping that the Hornets will have a bad season to show the NO front office how stupid they are. On the other hand, I feel bad for Floyd. He was not meant to coach in the NBA.
Does anybody know where Rick Carlise went?? Maybe he should try to get New Orleans if its not too late...
it's too late for New Orleans. I heard he was getting interviewed by the Clippers. there were also some rumors about Philly and Portland
i thought that NO would hire carlisyle. that is the stupidest move i've ever seen. i hope he can turn it around and lead the hornets to the playoffs and far into it, but i still think that it was a stupid move.

yea, it was painful watching him and the bulls. he was the crappy coach who was supposed to develope our young talent. i don't blame him. i dont think Krause should have given him the job. the Hornets will regret it.
