<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Van Gundy's new job: There's been much talk that new Houston coach Jeff Van Gundy will try to bring in some former New York Knicks he coached, especially to spread his gospel in the locker room. Several young Rockets players have been calling friends around the NBA because of concern about Van Gundy's reputation as a control-oriented, slow-down coach. Said Van Gundy: "I had some guys with the Knicks that played a huge part in any sort of success that we may have had, so I'm going to try to bring some guys here that have been so good and so much a part of any success we had in New York. I'd like to bring them here."

Much speculation has centered on Latrell Sprewell, whom the Knicks long have tried to deal. But one of the reasons Van Gundy supposedly walked out on the Knicks two years ago was that Sprewell told him off and tuned him out. The Rockets have several big men they would like to deal, including Kelvin Cato and Maurice Taylor. It's likely Van Gundy will try to get Allan Houston and the Knicks could be enticed, especially with questions about Antonio McDyess. It could happen if the Rockets included Eddie Griffin, who played one year at Seton Hall in South Orange, N. J.</div>

Crazy..why did you leave NY if you want some knicks players [IMG]

I think it's really hard to coach in NY, because it's a big media market and they will never leave you alone. There are a lot of critics, and unless you win them a championship, you had a bad season.
I think that's really tough, and maybe in the beginning you can pretend to not hear those things... but at one point in time you're gonna be fed up... and then you quit.. like Van Gundy did.
If I was Van Gundy I would trade for Kurt Thomas, he would fit perfectly at PF with Yao playing C.

I think if they every do get a knick player this could drive attention away from the important parts of the team, yao working out, and stevie.

the main reason he wants them is so they can act as assistant coaches and be renforcements in the locker room to support van gundy's style.
