According to ESPN's David Aldridge, the Sixers have decided to promote assistant coach Randy Ayers to the top spot, left vacant since Larry Brown stepped down on May 26 and later took the coaching job in Detroit. The Sixers have called a news conference for 2 p.m. ET on Friday. Ayers, former head coach at Ohio State, has been with the Philadelphia organization since 1997. He was promoted to assistant coach on July 22, 1998. Ayers compiled a 124-108 record at Ohio State, where he led the Buckeyes to four postseason appearances and earned national coach of the year honors in 1991. He twice was named Big Ten coach of the year. The Sixers, who had been turned down by Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks, Kentucky's Tubby Smith, and Nets assistant Eddie Jordan, had interviewed Mike Fratello for the job on Wednesday.</div> This guy better do good or else the 6ers might catch some heat for not going with Carlisle.
never heard of them, if he doesnt do good he is gonna get roasted by the philly fans, iverson is probably not gonna respect this guy at all
What a mistake...this guy is unproven..which normally doesn't bold well for a team with a coach like this...rick still has no job..
you can't blame them...they didn't have that much choices left on the field...Silas was already all over Cleveland.
what were their choices? I personally think that they should've talked to that one Blazers coach (but supposedly they wouldn't?), blegh...so they're stuck with the options that are easy (maybe the coach is good? You never know until you see 'em planning it all out...)
The Blazers said no, then yes, then no again. Rumor had it Mo' wanted to get out of Portland really bad. I don't know why we didn't go after Rick, he is an awesome coach. i hope this guy gets roasted by Allen.
