Interesting poll..make your own decision... here are some results..

    1) At what age should the NBA allow players to turn pro?

    33.5% 20

    19.9% Whenever they are ready

    19.5% 18

    18.2% 21

    5.0% 19

    2.7% 22 or older

    1.1% 17

    2) What is the worst effect of players entering the NBA at a young age?

40.7% Young men enter the league before they are emotionally mature.

24.5% The NBA game suffers from too many young players.

22.5% The NCAA game suffers from a drain of talent.

7.6% None of the above -- there are no bad effects.

4.7% Fans don't have the opportunity to get to know the players in college before they move on to the NBA.

    3) What is the best effect of players entering the NBA at a young age?

44.7% None of the above -- there are no good effects.

27.8% Players learn the pro game better in the NBA.

11.9% The NBA game is improved by all the young talent.

10.3% Players don't have to move through the corrupt NCAA system.

5.3% Players grow up faster emotionally in the NBA.

    4) In his Insider article, Chad Ford's study shows that players drafted at a younger age are far more productive over time than are players drafted at an older age. Does that fact and the success of players such as Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady and Amare Stoudemire change the way you view this issue?

72.2% No -- there are still too many Kwame Brown-type players who aren't ready for the NBA.

27.8% Yes -- players drafted out of high school have been more successful than expected.

I think the minimum age should be 18. I would like to see more players go to college, but if they are old enough to vote and are considered adults at 18 they should be able to make the decision to turn pro. Of course a lot of 18 year olds are immature, but they should still have the choice and deal with the consequences. What I don't like is players lose their right to attend college if they sign with an agent. I think they should be allowed to return whether they sign with an agent or not. If he is passed up in the draft he should still have to retain a scholarship and play college ball.

i dont think there should be an age limit. they're only going to go to college for basketball. most people forget about the whole education thing. some of these guys dont belong in college, so they might as well go straight to the NBA

if you have the quality, why not? I like players because they can play ball.. not because they have a diploma...

I know that too, but would you rather have a trashy 20 year old college player or a good 18 year old who just graduated..

I just think that if a NBA team thinks that someone fits their team they should be able to draft/sign him, no matter what.
And of course I don't like players who have all kinds of off-court problems, but an age-limit doesn't really prevent that I think... just look at the Portland Jailblazers...

there should be an age limit because what if you're not ready and you're 17 and right out of HS, and you become a total failure and don't even have a good career and get out of contract like 7 years later (well that probably couldn't happen...but still)...that would suck ass.
