A lot of young very good players want very big contracts, but they also want to win championships... I don't see these things going together... One player with a big contract almost takes away signing other very good players, because of the salary cap... Maybe KG is one of those guys... he's earning a lot of money... he's a very good player... but he never got out of the 1st round... would he take a salary cut if it would mean the T'wolves would be able to sign some quality players? And what would you do?
I dont think so.......... KG is all about the money, or he would have taken a pay cut a long time ago.
I would get as much money as I can while I'm young and have potential. Once I'm financially set and become a free agent I would sign with a contender.

So you can't use that as a reason to say he's for the money.

but uhm... isn't that a little unfair to the fans? Because by taking a lot of money, you are pretty sure you will never make it far in the playoffs... unless you are pretty lucky...
well the magic made the playoffs and they have a 12 million dollar liability just sitting on the bench. so it's possible to still make the playoffs with a big salary guy.
it might be unfair to the fans, but they should bring the issue to ownership for offering me that kind of money. if someone is willing to offer me 25M then i would be a fool not to accept it. of course i would shoulder the responsibility when the team does bad, but you only have a small window to make the big money. on the flipside i sign for less to get a ring, i get a ring, but i also get older and injuries start to creep up, and i never get the payday i was promised. this has happened before to veteran players who are promised this and that if they take a pay cut, and then when the payday comes the ownership doesn't keep their promises. it's one of the reason the player union was put in place. i think players have learned to accept the fact it's a business and there are no loyalties. so they take the money when they can and championships come secondary. it sucks for the fans, but the ownership is to blame for not being loyal to players.
good post shapecity... but don't you think a player could choose to get 15M instead of 25M and win a championship? that would really help the team...
no they wouldn't because you always have a chance to win a championship by signing with a contender, but you don't always get a chance to make up that 10Million. owners set the market value for players, not the other way around.
ok, but signing with a contender might not get the player the respect he deserves, because he probably won't be the leader of the team... Mitch Richmond did it.. and I believe he didn't even play much on the Lakers team, but he did win his ring...
it depends on how you want to define respect. one could say he didn't contibute much because he was on the bench. but you can also say i respect mitch for sacrificing more money and playing time on another team to put his ego and stats aside and win a ring. and he never once complained about accepting a lesser role when he was on the lakers.
that's true, but I believe he also got some disrespect from people because of that... not that it really matters... but do you see KG doing that in a couple of years? going to a team for the mid-level exception to win a championship?
i see kg signing with the lakers and playing with kobe. i think he sign a short term deal when he becomes a free agent and wait for a chance to play with kobe.
that would be a nice combo.... but I guess KG would make a nice combo with almost any other superstar T-mac and KG Duncan and KG Iverson and KG Webber and KG

KG was 1 Blazer win (or 1 Laker lose) for gettin out of the first round... whose is to say that they wont get the 4th seed next year and the the Kings lose Webber for the begining of the season and fall to the 6th spot and some team like the Blazers or Suns get the 5th seed... KG is capable of betting teams like that onwards we move KG doesnt nogaciate contracts... Eric Flasher (I think is his name) nogaciated the contract for KG... Ive heard KG didnt want to do anythin right away when he signed the 126 mil contract, that Eric kept tellin the T'WOlves he would never resign there if he became a FA so the T'Wolves offered the big money to assure to keep him... and i know this isnt about you or anything (right sunsfan?)... but if you were offered that kinda money would you stop to think "oh i cant take this money that THEY OFFER"... think not onwards we move Im not sure if Kg will ever resign with the wolves... I think they said he can make 215 mil of whatever on his next contract... but im sure with all the critizism hes always gotten that he will sign for less money now (he does have all the money he needs from his contract and And1 and whatever)... but we'll never know until he signs on the dotted line as far as the topic goes... They was the league is kinda workin now the players wanna cash in first... and at the end of their careers sign with a "Lakers" team to get the cheap championship...
I have two stances on KGs contract, really. One is that I don't blame him for signing the contract because he was really young and with all that money on the table he has to sign it. The other stance is that, I'm tired of people making up excuses for KG having poor team mates, when his contract is what is in the way of them getting better team mates for him. Even if the new CBA was made until after the contract signing, he should've known that the more money spent on one individual means that ownership will be hesitant to spend money on other players. In other words, I'm torn on the subject.
