VITALS: 6-2, 178, senior, Boston College

OVERVIEW: Bell spent four years at Boston College, where he was named Big East Player of the Year as a senior. He averaged more than 18 points per game in every year of his career, including a 25.2 scoring average his senior campaign to rank fifth in the nation. Bell averaged 3.7 assists last season and 2.3 steals per game. After a shooting slump as a junior, Bell returned to form and shot 40 percent on 3-pointers last season. Bell completed his career as Boston College's all-time leading scorer.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Late first round, early second round. When Bell led the Chicago pre-draft camp in scoring at 18.5 points per game, as well as finishing first in athletic testing, a number of teams took notice. He has been going on the workout circuit since and is one of the many prospects in the draft who could hear his name selected as early as the 20s or as late as the 40s.

COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Troy Hudson, Bobby Jackson

COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Terry Dehere, B.J. Tyler

    ROLE PROJECTION: Future starter.

POSITIVES: Bell was one of the most prolific scorers in college basketball in the last decade at the major conference level. He is as equally adept shooting the ball from the perimeter as he is taking it to the basket. Despite not being the biggest guy in the world, Bell would seem to have adequate size for the point guard position.

SHORTCOMINGS: Bell has a shoot-first, pass-second mentality that prevented him from raising the game of his teammates at the college level. His failure to do so may have been why his Boston College teams often struggled to live up to expectations. Bell will score a lot of points for you, but he will never be a true floor general.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: "He's been very impressive here (pre-draft camp) because of his feet and quickness, and I think he has adjusted to the point guard philosophy." NBA director of scouting Marty Blake

Yeah he is going to be a steal in the draft. He reminds me of Tim Hardaway.

I have always been a big fan of Troy Bell's.

I love his scoring ability, his quickness, the jumpshot. When he took BC to the tourney is when I really started watching him.

What will he be? A PG or a SG? At 6-2, and his scoring ability he is really in between. Probably will be a PG.

The great camp at Chicago will really help him.

I see him going early 2nd round. Maybe to LA, Miami (if they don't take Ford), LAC...

I love how you talk about the Pistons as "us, and we" its great. (Not sarcastic)

STC, the team he plays for will probably play him at the point, but I think with his explosiveness and scoring ability he wouldn't be at much of a disadvantage if he did play SG. However, all the scouts see his future as being a point guard.

bell said he was a scorer in college because that is what the coach for bc wanted him to be. but he ranked as the top athlete for all the picks and i'm sure he will be a solid pg in the league. he'll be another bobby jackson type player. he would be an upgrade over fisher and his athletic ability and speed should make him a good defender in the league.
