VITALS: 6-7, 198, senior, Auburn OVERVIEW: Daniels averaged 18.4 points and 3.3 assists last season in helping Auburn to the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA Tournament. Daniels averaged 23.3 points and 7.0 rebounds in three NCAA Tournament games including a spectacular 27-point, nine-rebound performance in a one-point loss to national champion Syracuse. Daniels also averaged 2.3 steals last season to lead the Southeastern Conference. Daniels was a second team All-SEC selection. He shot just under 30 percent on 3-pointers in his career and started every game as a senior. LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Second round. Chicago (36, 45), Memphis (27), Milwaukee (35, 43) and Phoenix (17) have shown interest. COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Penny Hardaway, Jamal Crawford COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Jeryl Sasser, Rodrick Rhodes ROLE PROJECTION: Reserve. POSITIVES: Daniels spent his entire junior year playing point guard. In the NBA, 6-6 point guards are at a premium. Not only is Daniels a playmaker, he is also a tremendous ball thief, rebounder and scorer. He is comfortable playing three positions and offers excellent versatility defensively. There is little not to like about Daniels. In the NCAA Tournament, he showed the ability to carry a team on his back. SHORTCOMINGS: A less-than-average perimeter jump shot is a weakness that could prove to be a major hindrance in the NBA. He will not be able to create looks from mid-range and around the basket at the next level as he could at Auburn. With no dependable jump shot, you have to wonder how Daniels is going to be able to make plays as a professional.
he didn't get drafted.. so I guess his lack of the ability to make a jumpshot really hurted him... I guess he will show up in Europe or in the NBDL...
Mavs can only offer him 5 mil though since they're over the cap, so if another team is willing to offer him more than 5 mil, he'll be gone same thing that happened with Gilbert Arenas, the Warriors couldn't keep him unless he was willing to take a huge pay cut, which he was not
Actually I would love to see him leaving Dallas.I think in few years if he gets 36-38 mpg he could average atleast 18,6 and 5.Daniels has said himself he would love to stay but he's a young player and wants more money but if he stays then he's one of the few young NBA players who aren't there for the money.I see him going to Phoenix or Atlanta,is Utah an possibility?
I wouldn't jump to conclusions right away, since I can imagine a pretty big shake up in Dallas over the summer. With the possibility of trading Walker/Finley and Nash for more defensive minded players (Abdur Rahim, Ratliff) they will probably want to hold on to Daniels, since he's very capable offensively. Either way, if the Mavs offer him $ 5 mil I suppose he will be very happy, since he only got $ 366,931 this season according to http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries/dallas.htm.
