<div class="quote_poster">Quoting "knicks235":</div><div class="quote_post">lampe is gonna tear the leauge up....AND HE WILL PLAY THIS YEAR hahahahahha what a steal i seriously think the knicks oranization had somthing to to with this lol</div>

A rumor was spread that his team Real Madrid wouldn't let him go, that's why a lot of teams passed on him...
If the Knicks can work a couple of things out with Real Madrid he will play... but it's gonna be hard... I read that they are asking for $1.8 million, and the NBA rules are that they can only give $350.000.
This means that the Knicks would have to give Lampe a lot of extra money so he can buy out his own contract, but that will be bad for their free agency status, because they have to use the mid-level exception.
A lot of problems.. but maybe they can work out something with a little creativity, like the Knicks playing a couple of exhibition games in Europe, which I and my fellow Europeans would like a lot! [IMG]

The most the Knicks can sign Lampe to is something close $370,000 a year I believe. The Knicks can only pay $350,000. That means Lampe is still left with a whole lot of money to pay.

I don't think that's true.. I believe there are no salary rules for 2nd rounders...
but if it was true.. Lampe won't be able to pay that.. since he was earning $45.000 a year in Spain...

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"But there are complications. The Knicks want Lampe now and Lampe wants to be here. But the Knicks are permitted to pay only $350,000 toward a buyout, under the N.B.A.'s rules. Typically, the player pays the rest of the buyout. But Lampe, as a second-round selection, will not receive a large guaranteed contract that goes to lottery picks. The Knicks are obligated to sign him for only the rookie minimum, which is projected at about $367,000 next season. Lampe would undoubtedly struggle to pay Real Madrid the remaining $1.65 million of his buyout." </div>

Now I'm confused about the Lampe situation. The article I posted a bit earlier said the Knicks can't get Lampe out of Spain by this year, but an article from ESPN Insider (the snippets from it are below) says the Knicks can get him out of his contract right now.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Lampe got caught in the annual draft day death spiral. Two things contributed to his slide.

One, miscommunication between FIBA, Lampe's agent, Keith Kreiter, and teams about Lampe's contract raised numerous red flags at the last minute. Many NBA teams were under the impression that Lampe would be unable to play in the NBA for several years.

Ooops. As it turns out, Lampe did have a $1.8 million Euro buyout provision in his contract -- not a big deal for a lottery pick. In other words, with a big check in his hands, Lampe could have easily been released to play in the NBA this year.</div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">If Scott Layden screws this one up, Knicks fans should stage a revolt. Lampe loses, and the Knicks save, essentially, $5.9 million in guaranteed money. The good news for Lampe is that he's now a second-rounder. That means the Knicks aren't constrained by the rookie salary scale.

If Lampe had gone No. 29, he would've made $803,400 this year and never have gotten out of his buyout. At pick No. 30, however, the Knicks could give him a two-year deal at around $2 million a season. Combine that with the $350,000 they can contribute to a buyout and they can get Lampe out of his contract now. </div>
