yea but waht u think of rus as a center? and dont forget cousy. he really invented the fast break or at least revoluitonaized the way the position was played
well i think russell was undersized for a center even though he played the position very well. when i watch film on him, he just wants it more than anyone else on the court. he had tremendous stamina and you can tell he studied how players shot and missed because he was always in the right spot. dennis rodman was also a master of this. yeah cousy of course. he had handles and great court vision, and he didn't have to palm the ball to get by defenders.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">It doesn't matter if a player can play more than one position because the fact is that a majority of the greatest players ever are versatile enough to play more than one position. What matters in things like these is the primary position that these players played so it doesn't make sense to put Bird at PF or Magic and Oscar at SG or other variations I have seen. Oscar's primary position was PG, Birds SF, Magics PG, etc. </div>
btw. go check out the best pitcher ever thread im interested to heasr your opinion unless u tink its andy pettite or summtihng. bill russell average 22 rebounds a game. mustve been a pretty decent center. he wasnt that small either. very smart and funny man. i saw him speak at a college one time. cracked me up. great story teller
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">well i think russell was undersized for a center </div> Same height as Hakeem, who you have as your best center, with a similar, if not bulkier, body build.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting "shapecity":</div><div class="quote_post">wilt played against more hall of famers than jordan has. have you heard of bill russell? willis reed? wes unseld? bob pettit? oscar robertson? Wilt Chamberlain played from 1968-73 please do some homework and go back and look at how many hall of famers played during his era.</div> Yep, I agree. Wilt was the best, after him comes the rest.
Hakeem was not seven feet. He was 6'10, 6'11 at the most but that's stretching it. I doubt his wingspan was that much longer than Russell's also because you can't block as many shots as he did without a very long wingspan or very good jumping ability. So even if he was undersized (in which case Hakeem would be also) those two things would more than make up for his height disadvantage.
mmm...i think he was at least 6 11 and he did have an impressive wingspan and ot more rebounds than hakeem
hakeem is listed as 7'0 and bill at 6'10 so whatever their real heights are hakeem was still taller. but it doesn't really matter either way to talk about their height or skill, both were great players.
and one last note before I go to sleep...Hakeem was listed at 7'0, so what? Do you realize the difference between Charles Barkley's listed height and his actual height? Measurements in the NBA are wrong so many times it's not even funny.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting "olskoolFunktitude":</div><div class="quote_post">yea. they list dirk at 6 10 </div> and how tall is he?

Russel was a pure C, not a PF, not then and not now. Wilt Chamberlain was the best C ever. Magic is a more spectacular PG and better all round player then Stockton, but Stockton is the better pure PG. I agree with bird and MJ. 8)
