SO why are the eagles going to go to the SB?, well because none of you think they are that good, ill explain. DOnavon McNabb, ok hes overrated, and blah blah blah, BUT HE WINS. HE WINS, hes never blown a game(except ronde barber) never, hes had countless comeback wins, Giants 3x, PAckers 2x, Redskins 2x, Dallas, Pittsburg, Chicago, and probably more that werent in the 4th. the guy wins, and always has and will. YES his stats are average if not worse, BUT HE WINS, and with 4 great years, hes won with no help. NONE, cero, zero, sqaut, shit, crap, TODD FRIKIN PINKSTONS and JAMES THRASH, AND CHARLES JOHNSON. i mean comeon people. COach-u want a genius, ill give you one. came to philly with no experience, no name for himself. dealt with so many controversy, letting hugh go, b-mithc, trotter, charles johnson, troy, bobby duce, emmons,, and how many have come back and kicked us in the ass?. there was 1 bad call and that was shawn barber. but hes made some great calls, mcnabb, akers, simon, jimmy johnson. He has a good playbook, and is a great coach. TO-he wanted to be here for a reason. he took a paycut i guess, i mean all the talk was he wanted a 17million siging bonus, but took 9 to come here. its BS, but he still wanted to be here, hes a great WR, hated SF thats why he was a problem. the Defense, Michael LEwis is going to be a threat, dawkins is great, i love lito and shel, but that doesnt mean anything. Lito has tons of talent, and played well last year, sheldon played well in his rookie season, now with them starting and a healthy, and maybe dominant D-line(if simon dont hold out) that will make them that much better. Mark Simmenaeu was the d-player of the month, then after we lost 5 defensive linemen he and wayne were worn down and fell off the earth. with him comming back and playing healthy, with a healhy line in front of him he will be better, not a great LB but still good. also another good move by AR AKers-hes not venateri, but hes alot of clutch FGs, hes missed 1 clutch 1 in his career, and that didnt hurt him. the only thing holding this team back is injuries, if there is no serious injuries to any key player, we will win the NFCCG. maybe the SB. i garantee it. bring it Beef, Bearsfan, BA and who ever else doesnt believe me and thinks im looking throug "green and silver" glasses.
i cant believe im saying this but im actually agreeing w/ you for once! for finally making sense...of course mcnabb is overrated and your finally admitting that(i guess thats a big step) i like the extra part you added about him. HONESTLY!!!!! WHO CARES IF HES OVERRATED!!! ARE THE EAGLES WINNING GAMES THAT AT HALFTIME THEY SHOULDNT WIN? YES!!!! i still think TO is gonna cry but as long as he actually plays, who gives!!! the defense should do much better this year since they are m,uch healthier than last year. Simoneau is going to the Pro Bowl and IS going to be D-player of the month again. i like him alot for long term... he looks like a threat to many offenses I ACTUALLY AGREED W/ DAWK!
The Eagles are not going to make the SB. I agree on McNabb being overrated but winning games. Something you forgot to talk about is the running back. They don't have a real running back with Staley gone. I don't think Buckhalter and Westbrook can handle the running back position. Even if they switch every play it won't work out. T.O. is a good WR but if there's a problem between him and McNabb it could be trouble. But besides that I think he'll be one of the best WR in the NFL this year. A problem with the Eagles is who will be the number2 reciever? I don't think Mitchell or Pinkston can do good as the number two reciever. Mitchell is still young and has much to learn. Pinkston is not that good of a player as people say.So the offense won't be as good as people expect. Now we got to the defense. The Eagles greatly improved with the D line. Jevon Kearse was the 2nd best move this year (T.O.) but may have problems with injuries. Also at the line they have Kalu. I think he's underrated and will do good this year. For the LBs I think ur overrating Simoneau. He's an average line backer and also there isn't another good LB to support him. Now for the CB there are no good players. All the players are rookies from last year or unexperienced players. They're going to fall apart this year. The safeties atre good but you expect to have them help out every play. This is why they're not going to the SB but are going to make the playoffs.
I wont disagree with you but I will bring to your attention the moves that were made in the NFC EAST will make it harder for the eagles to win those close games they have been winning in the past. Dallas, skins and giants have all changed from undisciplined leadership to coaches known for the ol' my way or the highway view on football. All of the new hires have had sucess in the NFL and and 2 of three have won multiple SB'S. Just my opinion, but I feel that this is phillys last real chance at taking it all the way to the top. Letting Deuce go will prove to be a bigger mistake than it is being made out to be now. Deuce was a game breaker, mitchell and buck are not. t.o. is a major talent and will have an impact but he will be doubled every where he goes so who is going to take u p the slack? pinky? mitchell? there not gamebreakers. Like I said, if no injuries, this year philly is good enough to possibley go a long way but still ? marks remain. Everyone is tied for first right now, let the games begin, pleeeease!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tuna)</div><div class='quotemain'>Everyone is tied for first right now, let the games begin, pleeeease!</div> i agree!! I CANT WAIT!!!!
I like to hear that you think Duce was a game-breaker. Hopefully he will be in the 'Burgh as well. I also have to agree with you Tuna on the fact that it's the Eagles last chance to really be dominant in the East. The Cowboys will take a step back this season to take 3 steps ahead in 2005, but it's only a matter of time before the Giants and Redskins become very good teams again. The window is beginning to close.
as much as i hate you for saying it i agree....our window of oppurtunity is closed after this year(maybe not even that long) and after that it wont only be the cowboys being the team in our division wed wanna watch out for...wow! this should be a fun year
McNabb is a good QB. Not great yet, but he can win games for you. The Eagles do not have a leg up in the coaching department. He is a great coach (although I would disagree about the lack of experience). However, he may very well be the worst coach in his division. No knock on AR, but they aren't going to make the SB because he is head-and-shoulders better than Parcells, Gibbs, and Coughlin. TO is a force to be reckoned with, but he is a star. I'm sorry, but I think the Eagles offense worked because they didn't have a star to key on. Yes, Staley made plays happen and I do believe they will miss him this year, but no one put 9 in the box to stop Staley on a normal play. As Mystery Man pointed out, the key may be for the 2nd receiver to step it up this year. The defense will key on how good Kearse is. As always, the defense will be good. No one is sold on their corners as you are, and that includes the team. That's not to say that the team doesn't have faith in them, or they wouldn't have let their old starters go so easily. However, the have to prove some stuff before they are annoited. Like any good team, depth is a concern. If injuries come like they did last year, you will be in trouble again (read: Kearse). Along with your CBs, your LB performance will probably dictate how strong your defense is. This is probably a weaker-than-average LB core .... at least on Eagles standard. That may require a change in defensive philosophy. If that is the case, it could add to the CB problems. The old men couldn't move as well anymore, but those cagey vets sure knew how to work that defense when it has healthy and clicking and take advantage of opportunities. Akers is good, no doubt. I don't see them in the SB....but I could be wrong. After all, you are the Oracle.
i agree...our new defense isnt the old defense...so it wont be as good... i miss them alot...but we need things to change, except this time it needs to be a good change. we should get a new defense philosophy also,... last year those injuries killed us... in training camp they should train the back ups in case that happens again, i do not like watching offenses pound us like that
Unless disaster strikes, the Eagles should still be the cream of the crop in the East... or at least for this season. Reid is a great coach, but he's got alot to prove before being compared to Gibbs or Parcells. He's proven himself as much or more than Coughlin IMO. It will be interesting to see how the defense adjusts....
You all made good points, but i will defend my team. -TO i doubt will have 85+catches, but he will get doubled alot. That leaaves room for Freddie Mitchell, who was a 1st round pick, and after sucking up the field for 2.5 seasons, he started to come around the second half last season and ive always said he gets open just doesnt get thrown to. Pinky is a ?. he had a pretty good year 2 years ago, but last year he sucked. I think our offense will make or break on him, not TO. I watched all the games over again the last few weeks, and i came to the conclusion that he got off to a bad start because Donavon did,(he had 2 broken or mesed up fingers) so that spread like cancer on the offense. I think he will have a better season, but like i said, he will make or break the offesne this year -LJ Smith is going to be the other factor after Pinkston, hes going to make the probowl, hes going to be a great player. YES BA, BEEF, BEARSFAN, i said it. no, i guarantee it, just watch. if he doesnt, ill leave forever. he will get alot of opprunities with TO being covered. Hes going to have to share with Pinky(if he makes) or Freddie. -I strongly dissagree with the RB statements, duce was a nice roll player, but dont get you hopes up SF. hes done, he was good as a 6 carrie man, but lost more than a step. the reason he was effective last year because is he didnt take a beating early on. in fact he went streches were he barely touched the ball. Buck was compared to having that down field running style Marshall Faulk has, and in fact was compared to running like Faulk after his rookie season. but Buck F'd up his knee, and was never 100% last season like most RBs are after a knee injury(look at Jamal Leewis). -I think Westbrook takes a step back to reality, and becomes a good RB, not great but explosive. HE will break a run or catch every game, and will alwaays concern defenses....when hes on the field, but hes injury prone, and isnt reliable to go 19 games. HE will have good numbers, and can be used for alot of packages, plays, and SP. but hes on the field alot and will have to stay healthy if he wants to have a better season. -The defense will be better than ever(at least in ARs era), I LOOOOOVE Lito and SHel, they are both more physical and agressive, and after researching their stats and compared them to Tory and Bobbys(which ill post soon) they had better years, and wont kill us. With the additoon of Kearse, and a healthy d-line, its the deepest d-line in the league. it will go back to its dominant force when it led the league in sacks for a couple years, and with that they will help the DBs so much better. -Simenaeu was a suprise last year, he had a great start when we actually led the league in rushing defense, but after all of our d-line injuries, the LBs got worn down, and him being undersized he def. did. i think he will go the distance, and will be a better than average MLB. Carlos Emmons was way overrated, hes a good role LB, but got caught yp in the hype last year. hes old, hurt and average. -Yes akers is good, -O yea i was kidding about D-Mac being overrated, he deserves what he has, because the most important stat is wins, and he has them. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I don't see them in the SB....but I could be wrong. After all, you are the Oracle.</div> haha i like that. This is a year with no dominant team in the NFL, and especialy the NFC, so why not?.
Dawk; You wanted it brought! So,... The only way Philly makes it to the Super Bowl is if they play themselves in the NFC c'ship and even then the AFC may have to send 2 teams because the aforementioned game will end in a zero zero tie. LJ Smith will NOT make the Pro Bowl! Dawk; your obsession w/ Brian Dawkins & LJ is starting to worry me. ha ha!!!? Bubba Franks & Alge Crumpler will. Chris Cooley (A rookie w/ the 'skins from Utah St) has better chance of making it to Honolulu.
dude ive heard so much about LJ from all the beat writers, ive watched him and formed my own opinion, and im ahead of the game, like i was with michael lewis and the panthers last season. trust me, hell open up alot of eyes. i admit i was exagerating about the probowl, but you will see. and ill leave it at that
1. i like freddie mitchell alot... he is a great reciever, and now w/ TO on the team, he and pinkston will have more room... i like mitchell, especially after his catch in the divsional playoffs(4th and 26) 2. LJ smith... he shouldve done much better than he did... and he WILL DO BETTER this year... if you remember(i know eagles fans do) last year against the bucs in week 1, he dropped the TD pass on the fake field goal... not a good way to start a career, he proabably got a little bummed and maybe a little ticked, and thats why i think he didnt do as good 3. as far as i can remember, duce had 1, count em 1 good game... that was against dallas on week 1 a few years ago. i think he rushed for maybe 245yds or something that game, then he got injured and missed alot of the season, and i think the next also... he was never the same... westbrook is a good player tooi think he can eat up defenses and that will be good for us. 4. this could go 50-50... our defense may be good, w/ kearse on the team and having no injuries... BUT, KEARSE is VERY injury prone and that isnt good.he gets injured alot. im gonna say it again, simoneau is a good player and WILL be in the PRO BOWL next year... mostl likely not starting, but hell be there. 5. of course akers is good, you didnt need to put that there, everyone knows that 6. yes, who cares if someone is over rated as long as theyre winning, no one should care AS I SAID EARLIER, THE NFC IS A TOSS UP, ANYONE CAN WIN SO IF LIONS OR CARDINALS(well maybe not cardinals) WIN THE CONFERENCE, I WOULDNT BE SURPRISED AT ALL
Shockey will make the pro bowl because of his status not his stats. I dont see people voting for crumpler over shockey i hate bringing this up but i remeber a game in which Duce had around 140 yds vs the giants on a monday night game last year.
Man I wish we would have got Duce. Mix him in with some talented youth and let him teach them how to play in the big leagues! Reid screwed up letting him go. Yes, I know I sound like a broken record but I still believe it was a screw up letting him go. He wasn't washed up at all! He killed us and we had the #1 rated defense last year. He's always been hard on us anyway though. Of course if they dont block for him in Pittsburgh then he WILL look like he is washed up anyway. I think Detroit is building a team that will bring back a winning tradition to that fine city. I'm glad the 49ers fired Mooch now they are "rebuilding". Not much news, everybodys on vacation I guess. Later all you NFL football junkies!
