However we are talking about starters so you can't have the others with Cous and Hondo. Cousy was underrated at the defensive end, but is still not as good Payton. Hondo was not as good an SG as Kobe. Like I said, he may be able to beat Kobe in the hustle department, but Kobe outlasts him in anything else.

As of right now we are going on pure individual talent. With that being said Payton and Kobe beat out Cousy and Hondo. We have to wait until the season starts to figure out the chemistry portion of things.

cousy was a better indivudial talent than than payton. cous basically inveneted the way the position is paid today. havlicek is one of teh all time greta scorers and clutch playmakers

Payton was a more versatile scorer. Not as good a passer, but he is sufficient enough to compare to Cousy. GP is also the better defender. Of course Cousy defined how the position is played today because he was one of the first people to ever play the game. Kobe's game is more complete than Hondo's.

I already discussed this. Hondo and Cousy were not better than Kobe and Payton. What I don't get is why you have three or four people listed on some when we are talking about the STARTING backcourts. Sure some of those guys got their fair share of playing time, but not all of them were STARTERS.

When I think about it, Clyde Frazier and Earl Monroe are the closest backcourt to GP and Kobe. They were smart, played tough D, and can score.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting "Moo2K4":</div><div class="quote_post">This is gonna be by far the best backcourt in the NBA next year. Both offensively and defensively. I mean, in all likelyhood, Payton's probably gonna be gettin about 15 ppg, throw that in with Kobes 27-30 ppg, who's gonna stop em. And to top it all off, two first team all defenders. This backcourt is gonna be a pain for any team in the league. And, to top it off with a frontcourt of Malone and O' Neal, that's a surefire mix for another NBA championship.</div>
Malone isn't that much of a defender. i dont think too many teams will be concerned about him

i wouldnt call mailman a bad defender, hes a crafty vet who knows how to play the refs and get in your head, he cant move his feet real fast, but, that dont mean he cant play tough D.

kobe and GP are definitly one of the most talented backcourts of all time...certainly better than any bench backcourt. whether they play well together is yet to be seen, but in terms of pairing up two incredibly talented players to form an allstar back court, this is one of the best combos

and i dont think its clear cut the lakers...they may play shitty together, shaq might get injured, anything can happen, the next season will be sick , i cant wait for it...anyone who says that the next season is gonna suck should fcuk off and get off the board, cuz you clearly just DONT love ball. so what if the lakers do win it all...that means its a <font color="green">edit</font> season? get real, next season is gonna be SICK and i cant wait!

Exactly. The people that say they hate the Lakers are the ones that basically revolve the league around the Lakers and what they do. Of course it's going to suck if that's all you think about.

I would argue with you, but it's so damn worthless because the topic involves Kobe and when the topic involves Kobe and you are posting you can't expect anything you say to be rational.

Celtics: I've agreed with you a lot today Olskool. Kobe isn't the player Cousy was yet. Then Payton will never measure up to Sam Jones or John Havlicek.

Lakers: Baylor played some Shooting Guard.

Knicks: All of them were on the same team and they were all better.

Pistons: Isaih is a step bellow Kobe, but when Dumars and Thomas were in their prime Dumars was a lot better than Payton is now.

Why are matching Kobe with Cousy? Payton and Cousy basically even out. Kobe is on the same level, to me a little higher, than Hondo.

Baylor played SOME shooting guard. SF is his primary position. He played night in and night out. Therefore he can't be considered.

Still: Willis Reed? [IMG] Maybe I'll help you a little, Reed was a center. I've said that the closest backcourt may be Frazier and Earl Monroe so atleast you got the Knicks part right.

Again, why are you matching Kobe with Isiah? Isiah is a bit better than Payton, however Kobe is better than Dumars.

Maybe if Payton was in his prime, but he's not.
