<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">With Mourning on the way, Kidd will stay -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPN.com news services Free-agent center Alonzo Mourning plans to sign with the New Jersey Nets, apparently paving the way for Jason Kidd to re-sign in New Jersey, a league source who spoke with Mourning's agent Thursday night told Insider's Chad Ford. Mourning could announce as early as today that he'll sign a 4-year, $20 million contract with the Nets. Mourning's agent told the Insider source that Mourning agreed to sign with the Nets after receiving assurances that Kidd also will re-sign. Kidd's agent, Jeff Schwartz, didn't return a phone call Friday morning seeking comment. Mourning, who can't officially sign until July 16th, will be in Miami tonight at Zo's Summer Groove, his charity basketball game and dinner. Mourning, 33, was diagnosed in October 2000 with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, a kidney disease that can eventually require a transplant. He played in just the final 13 games for the Heat in 2000-01, but appeared in 75 games the following season. Last September, shortly before training camp, Mourning was advised by doctors to skip the 2002-03 season because test results indicated his condition had worsened. He has since received medical clearance for 2003-04.</div> http://msn.espn.go.com/nba/news/2003/0711/1579328.html

Clear Channel NBA beat reporter Scott Jackson in Washington D.C. says sources close to free agent center Alonzo Mourning have confirmed the deal, which includes a commitment by the Nets to sign Mourning. Jackson says Kidd feels returning to the Nets and adding Mourning to the roster is his best hope of getting a championship ring. There has been no confirmation from Jason Kidd or the Nets and the Spurs say they have not been formally notified of any decision. 1200 WOAI's Walter Pasacrita says an agreement could be announced as early as today, and Kidd is expected to sign with New Jersey on July 16th, the first day free agents can be officially signed. The Spurs had offered Kidd a reported six year, $94 million deal during a meeting here in San Antonio on Monday. mutombo and zo the hoya frontcourt! i hope zo is healthy enough to play next season. it's going to be a two team race with the pistons and nets next season and it's looking more and more like the lakers are in the driver seat out west. the spurs have not been able to get anyone they wanted via free agency. most of the stars have signed already and only 2nd & 3rd tier players are available. maybe they should make a move to get lamar odom or maggette.

yeah, it's sad to see someone like zo have a kidney injury, hopefully he can comeback strong, (against everyone but the magic)
Because of Payton and Malone. See this is the same thing everybody said about this year "Lakers 4peat yaddi yaddi ya" THen Duncan made everybody shit in their pants. People all shocked, stoopid ceremonys talking about "Thanks for the Memories" bla bla blah as much as I despise Ducan, I bet hes gonna make everybody shit in their pants again this year..
Difference is lakers didn't have any help this year...all there was shaq and kobe..they now add payton and malone...duncan needs another star to have a chance to beat L.A....a heathly shaq means bad news for the rest of us..
it looks like the East is getting better, the Nets vs. Pistons race will be fun to watch, so that's good for the NBA in the West the Lakers will be very strong, but you never know what happens.. what if Shaq goes down?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting "magicfrankie":</div><div class="quote_post">what if Shaq goes down?</div> That's what the Lakers have taken care of this off season. If Shaq or Kobe goes down, they can still be a .667 kind of team.... Rooks? Malone George Kobe Payton ...will still win 2 out of every 3 games.
