<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"Last year I had a couple tanks, a couple grenades," O'Neal said in a telephone interview. "Now I got atomic weapons. I'm going nuclear. I'm Colin Powell, and I can drop the bomb any time I want to."

Shaq's war analogies are a bit much. But after he helped persuade Karl Malone and Gary Payton to join the Los Angeles Lakers this week, you could not blame the game's most dominant player for having visions of vindication.

Knocked from their pedestal by the San Antonio Spurs in May, ending their run of championships at three, the Lakers reloaded in an unimaginable way. While the Jason Kidd saga preoccupied greater New York for a few days, David Stern's hope for leaguewide parity went out the window on the other coast.

O'Neal, Kobe Bryant, Payton and Malone ? four future Hall of Famers ? filling the lanes on the same squad? The Dream Team is indeed in the house.

The rich didn't just get richer; they got obscenely wealthy. Bill Gates might as well acquire Dell; Donald Trump should just buy out Leona Helmsley. The Lakers are now the Yankees of basketball, a virtual murderers' row of talent and toughness.

"I think last season we were obviously missing hungry players," O'Neal said. "And we just signed two starving players."

"Did I tell you Anthony Mason might be signing with us today, too?" he added. "That's going to be a lot of beef. No more Hack-a-Shaq."</div>

Is this serious or is shaq messing around again?

Wrong..lakers won't win the title for 3 straight years...malone will retire by the 2nd year...shaq will be older..although .payton will likely still play..but lakers will need young guys in...in say 3 years time..

Nope... but they could be working on a trade...
It's still kinda strange that Shaq said this.. since it could be seen as tampering, which is illegal in the NBA...

lakers don't need mason, he isn't that good and they will be the worst ft shooting team in the league by far with shaq and mason.

just give the lakers the rings.

Yeah.. Gadzuric should've kept the starting spot at center, would've been much better for his progression...

shaq was probably joking when he made that statement, however the lakers have discussed a sign and trade deal with milwaukee, to help GP get more money. so we might see a GP & Mason deal for some combination of players and draft picks. we'll just have to wait and see.
