LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Speaking publicly for the first time since he was accused of sexual assault, Kobe Bryant denied the allegations and said he "would never do something like that."

"When everything comes clean, it will all be fine, you'll see," Bryant, 24, told the Los Angeles Times in a story published Sunday.

The five-time NBA All-Star would not discuss details of the case, the newspaper said.

"I shouldn't have to say anything. You know I would never do something like that," the Los Angeles Lakers star said in the brief telephone interview.

Bryant is accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman at the Lodge & Spa at Cordillera in Edwards, Colo., on June 30. All records in the case have been sealed.

Bryant, who was in Colorado for knee surgery at a Vail clinic, surrendered to authorities on July 4 and was released after posting a $25,000 bond. Prosecutors have said they expect to decide this week whether to file charges against Bryant.

Bryant's attorneys have previously said he is innocent and expects to be exonerated.

A majority of the time polygraph tests aren't admissable in court anyway because they aren't reliable enough (I think that's the reason atleast).

Innocent people who are smart always refuse to take a polygraph. They are highly inaccurate and VERY easy to fool.

Questions that simply make a person nervous often register as untrue. So by the nature of a question(s) directed towared someone who is accused of being a criminal, many of his or her answers appear to be untrue to the polygraph.

Also, 'experts' have shown that they can beat a polygraph (by intentionally providing untrue answers) 85-90% of the time. DNA evidence also proved many jailed victims of bogus polygraph tests to be innocent.

In short, failing a polygraph test would be horrible for Kobe's PR because it would blow up in the media, regardless of its validity.

because they are like 90% reliable, and if somehow it didnt work, and they said he was a liar, it could be bad for him

Thats not true. people who r really secure with their innocence usually agree to the polygraph. they dont always pass it cause theyre nervous but its when poeple refuse the test that raises eyebrows

But imagine if he didn't pass though...the media and public would be all over him.

The bottom line is that Kobe is smart enough to do exactly what his lawyer tells him too and he makes enough money that you can bet he has a team of DAMN good lawyers who are experienced in this type of case.

So even though you may believe that people confident of their innocence usually take the test, its pretty hard to question any decision on the part of Kobe's party here.

that was just explained. even if he was innocent, he'd probably be nervous as hell and could fail anyways

It is so easy to beat a polygragh test, for instance my grandmother took one and was instucted to lie about things like if she was married and if she had any kids, so she did and the answers she lied about came back as if she had soken the truth.

i think kobe is innocent...there is a reason polygraphs arent admitted into court cases...they are inaccurate. if kobes nerves were goin bonkers, it could screw up and make him end up looking guilty. lets not forget, he submitted his own dna voluntarily...i think that speaks ten thousand times louder than a shady polygraph test.

come on, we all see kobe, we know he wouldnt do somethin like that...would a man like kobe...good looking, millionaire, celebrity, need to force himself on a girl? kobe could easily have 6 bikini model type girls at once if he wanted...but i doubt hed even do that
