By Marc Narducci Inquirer Staff Writer BOSTON - The agent for Allen Iverson said last night that there have been talks with the 76ers about a contract extension for the four-time all-star guard. "I'll confirm that we have had informal discussions, but I won't comment any further," Leon Rose, Iverson's agent, said last night before a summer league game. Iverson, 28, has two years remaining on a six-year, $71 million contract, but he can opt out of the deal after the 2003-04 season. If he signs an extension before the coming season ends, he can add five years totaling about $96 million. He is due about $12 million this year and $14 million for the 2004-05 season. Iverson, the Sixers' scoring leader, is one of the NBA's top drawing cards, and extending his contract would get the Randy Ayers era off to a running start. Ayers has enjoyed a good rapport with Iverson, and a contract extension would be a sign of Iverson's faith in the franchise and his new coach. The 6-foot guard, who was the NBA's most valuable player in the 2000-01 season, has completed seven seasons with the Sixers with a career average of 27 points per game. He has averaged 30.6 points in 57 playoff games. Iverson played all 82 regular-season games last season for the first time in his career and averaged 27.6 points. Billy King, the Sixers' president and general manager, was unavailable last night for comment.
Why would the Sixers want to give him an extention? He would just become selfish again after getting big bucks.
No comment on this one b/c it's hard to say what Iverson will do IMO. I thought he might leave but after hearing other ppl out, I don know.
You know when there's a player who you just can't see playing for anyone else but the team he's with, well Allen is one of them, he wouldn't be the same on another team.
Well he could of gone to Detroit a few years ago, it was about to happen but Matt Geiger pulled out, or something.
I could picture him dishing to Big Ben like in the All Star game, I bet you'd love him with the Pistons, but it would change their whole team.
I don't think AI would be good for our team, I think he would of ruined the team chemistry, the bad boy Pistons years are over, don't want that to return with Iverson around.
Then, he would have probably ruined the chemistry, now I don't think so. He has matured way more, and I know he knows his role.
