kobe got in trouble. keon's father got in trouble. darrell armstrong got in trouble. damon stoudmire got in trouble. cwebb got in trouble. former bucks PGs got in trouble. wtf is going on? would these off court problems make the nba's image worse?
there have always been problems off court for various NBA players. they just seem to be happening all at once this summer
We pay to see them play basketball, not act like gentlemen. I couldn't care less if everyone on the Grizzlies was a convicted criminal just as long as they are winning the games.
so you honestly wouldn't mind if your team was just like Portland? they're extremely talented, but after a while, all that baggage gets in the way of playing the game

A basketball player is a basketball player and it should stay at that. You shouldn't want to know about their lives off the court. I don't keep up with that. I respect players for their on the court ability and their on the court history, not for having a clean record. But to each his own I guess. Why do off the court antics matter so much to you?
yes, but eventually (like the Blazers) it may get too out of hand and interfere with on court situations. it really depends on how much the team gets in trouble

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AzBalla17:</div><div class="quote_post">what about when bonzi and patterson got in a fight</div>I don't remember Bonzi Wells and Ruben Patterson fighting, but I do remember Qyntel Woods holding Ruben Patterson while big Zach Randolph pounded the life out of him. I believe that he fractured Ruben Patterson's eye socket.
lol. i missed that. anybody know where u can find a clip? yea the blazers a perfect example of when off court stuff interfereww with the team. but in general im with spartan that its easy to forgive off court stuff if the team wins even if its "image" is tarnished

However, I will go search for some links to stories about it. I think that is a perfect example of an off the court conflict between players that barely affected the team. The Blazers operated smoothly without Patterson, and when he got back there were no more fights between him and Randolph. It was as if nothing even happened.

Hearing abou them smoke weed, get into fights, sexual assult sure doesnt help their image..especially when u have a 10 year old soaking in every move their favorite player does
A ten year old kid soaking in everything a basketball player does should be that kid's parents concern and not mine.
they probably should, but most aren't. basketball players are always going to be looked up to by little kids. we can't keep the kids from doing that. basketball players can however, control their actions.
Some kids follow basketball players just because they ARE thugs, like Allen Iverson. If a kid is stupid enough to sexually assult a girl just because Kobe Bryant did then he not only needs to serve time, but he also needs mental help.
I guess you dont see my point. They are seen in the public eye and should at least try to stay out of legal trouble. Plus its giving the nba a bad rap

Plus its giving the nba a bad rap</div>Ah, you are also missing my point. To keep from repeating myself, here is my point, I will not post in this thread again - Fans should not care what a player does or who follows him in doing that just as long as that player is helping his team to win games. If you have a child or relative that looks up to a professional athlete despite your best efforts to prevent this then you should take it upon yourself to explain to your child or relative that when this athlete does something bad it does not mean that it is the right or smart thing to do. If the parents don't take time out of their day to explain this to their children or if the children are stupid enough to not pay attention to this then they should get what's coming to them after they do the crime and find out why it is wrong the hard way. Jason Kidd is ONE of my role models and my favorite player, but I didn't hit my girlfriend when he hit his wife. Most of the time people are just looking for excuses for not disciplining their children right when they blame professional athletes for their child's faults.
