Yes, they matched the offer sheet that he signed with the heat for $82M.

I don't think the Clippers will make the playoffs, Houston would get it ahead of them. People have been saying they'll make it for a while now and they haven't. The Clippers have a good line up but they are too young and something's not right with their team chemistry. If they do get in it'll be because of Dunleavy and replacing A.Miller with Arenas if they get him. But I'd still pick Houston to get in ahead of them even if LA have a better line up.

Rodney Rogers? Mo Taylor? Those guys were good with the Clips, but ended up having sub par career. Nothing worth the money they were probably asking for.</div>

    Anyone?

Although Sterling is a business genius, he is definately a cheapskate. He is not a fan of basketball and has always viewed the franchise as just another business. He has followed the same formula since he became the owner. He sells youth and new faces, with the possibility of just making it into the playoffs each year. He trades aging veterans for draft picks or youth or expiring contracts. He spends very little or marketing the team and prior to renting the Staples Center, the Clippers had some of the worst facilities in the league. He is only concerned with the bottomline and operates his team based on greatest return on investment and not a winning season. For him, a winning season is making more profit than the year before.

You are right about him not signing those players, because most of them were not very talented or suffered injuries.

But also, Sterling has never made an effort to sign a high profile free agent or build a championship caliber team, eventhough he had the cap space to do it. In the past he also refused to sign a coach to a large salary.

However, he is slowly changing his ways, starting last season. He did a great job in being patient with Kandi, and ended up getting him for another season. He made a bold move shipping fan favorite Darius Miles to the Cavs to bring in Andre Miller. This year he is committing to his young talent and for the first time, the Clippers will have a nucleus signed for long term deals.

    Whatcha smoking ?

Season tickets for 2 years and even NBA League Pass for 2 years just to watch this talent has led me to see the truth. The only thing that is going to happy to the Clippers is that they are going to consistently underperforming despite the talent or coaches that they have. Donald Sterling is only going to regret the kind of money he gave up to keep his losers together. I had more respect for him when he was just out for the money. Now he is throwing away money, and time will tell that he is going to have another young not ready for prime time team. Brand and Magette are the men, though.

Why is that a bad thing? It's a business and he has the right to be more concerned with what profit his investment will bring him because he spent MILLIONS to get this investment. I don't see how it's any different than players playing for contracts now or in the past.

It's not a bad thing, and I'm sure most owners have this philosophy, but they just are not upfront about it like Sterling is.
