Posey Agrees to Offer Sheet with Grizzlies!

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Reports: Rockets forward accepts year deal with Grizzlies
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Associated Press
HOUSTON (AP) _ Houston Rockets forward James Posey has agreed to a four-year deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, according to broadcast reports Tuesday.

Houston stations KRIV-TV and KILT radio reported Posey has not signed the offer but has approved it verbally and is pleased with it.

``I think I made the best decision for myself and for my future,'' Posey said while not disclosing financial details. ``It was more than what the Rockets put on the table.''

The Rockets have 15 days to match the Memphis offer once Posey signs it if they wish to keep the 6-8, 215-pound forward. He's averaged 9.4 points, five rebounds and 1.29 steals in 319 games with Denver and Houston during a six-year NBA career.

``It's really in their court right now,'' Posey said of the Rockets.

Rockets spokesman Nelson Luis said the team first learned of the offer Tuesday afternoon and had no other response. </div>

id rather have posey over demarr any day...posey is a solid underrated player...does a bit of everything...can play like 3 positions...solid player off the bench/occasional starter, causes mismatches...good move for the grizz, even if they got a few players at that position, he makes them better

great move by the grizzlies. posey is a great all-around player and is a great defender. so far this off-season the grizzlies have made a strong push to improve their defense.

    bell
    jones
    demarr
    posey

all these guys are great defenders. for a team near the bottom of defense last season, the grizzlies will vastly improve this year. now they just need to figure out how to find minutes for all these players. but at least the grizzlies have a lot of options and flexibility.

So long as the Rockets aren't scared of the luxury tax, they can easily resign Posey.

I agree. If he goes back to the rockets he should start for them at the Small Foward Spot

Yeah, that's the problem. Its so hard to grab any information about teams that isn't what's printed by the media. Remember Rule #1 in the NBA- Everybody lies.

That includes players, coaches, front-office people, owners and the media.

Posey is a valuable player because he provides scoring off the bench, a capable fill-in guy if a starter goes down as well as a player who is a valuable bargaining chip in trade talks. Low Salary + Offensive Punch = easy to trade.

So while they Rockets may be trying to avoid the luxury tax, Posey might not push them in that direction, and even if he does- he might be worth it.

    Stupid, stupid signing by Memphis.

They already had too many SG/SFs, now they just have one more to throw in there.

    Battier/Miller/Person/Dickerson/Jones/Posey/???Johnson???

Houston has come out and said that they will not re-sign him so I don't see why the title needed to be changed.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Because Posey is a restricted free agent, the Rockets have 15 days, or before Aug. 7, to match the deal. However, Posey's Chicago-based agent Mark Bartelstein said he believes his client will wear a Grizzlies uniform this season.

"Houston wanted him back. But they couldn't make a financial commitment until next year," Bartelstein said. "They're contemplating (a match). But they have a major luxury-tax burden."

The Rockets made Posey a qualifying offer of $2.445 million but likely won't pay nearly $5 million to retain him.
