Report: Elden Campbell set to sign with Pistons...

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Sources in Detroit told Insider Wednesday night that the Pistons were on the verge of signing center Elden Campbell to a two-year deal starting at $4 million a season. Campbell's agent, Richard Howell, declined comment on the deal. If the deal holds up over night, the move will likely spell the end of Cliff Robinson's career with the Pistons. Campbell will already join three other Piston 7-footers -- Zeljko Rebraca, Darko Milicic and Mehmet Okur. And, don't forget the Pistons also have Ben Wallace who, at 6-foot-9, plays bigger than the other four.

Those five will give Detroit the biggest front line in the East. The Pistons are set just about everywhere else. Chauncey Billups and Chucky Atkins at the point, Richard Hamilton and Carlos Delfino (who now appears likely to come this year) at the two, Tayshaun Prince and Corliss Williamson at the three and the five big guys up front. Where will Robinson end up? Don't be shocked if you see him land in Big D. Nellie's has a thing for Robinson and a Robinson-for-Avery Johnson deal works under the cap (and saves the Pistons some money next season).</div>

Good signing,i was waiting for Joe to make a move....and as the article says...we are so damn big now...i hope Elden can give us something..he is also another body to guard Zo when we face NJ....seems Joe D has another player in-line also..

If he can give us 6 rebounds a game then i will be very happy..ben needs help with the boards...

This is great for the Pistons. They will add a big body to their frontcourt who can take up space in the lane, rebound, and he has a nice offensive game close to the basket. I see this year the Pistons playing sort of a three-man rotation with Cambell, Wallace, and Darko. Allnet is there any word on whether Darko will start at the beginning of the season?

But he is really old, he has been in the L for 15 seasons. I don't think he will do as well as some of you are saying.

He is not here to get to 15 and 10..he will be on a team that has good enough players...he is still a good player to have on your team..if he stays injury free i see him giving us 10 and 6 at least

As for darko..there still seems to be delay..and i doubt it will be sorted out anytime soon...i hope he will play for us straight away..but i feel he will miss training camp

Darko's PT will be minimal. Detroit is a team trying to compete for a ring. Milicic is a 17 year old rookie. Detroit made it to the ECF w/o Darko, and are looking on the verge of it again. Darko is a young kid from overseas.

    Notice a small problem?

Detroit did the right thing in drafting Darko. He is a low post scoring threat(as he was in Europe). But he wont have an immediate impact over here. His defense will dictate whether or not he will earn PT. And the key word is "earn." Detroit is in the position to bring Darko along slowly. Remember, this isn't a lottery team(like most high picks end up on). They can afford to do this.

Will Darko get PT? Most likely. But remember, as of now, Okur, Wallace, Campbell, Williamson, Robinson(if kept) are all ahead of him on the depth chart. Because Detroit is trying to make the playoffs, they wont simply hand PT over to Darko, especially if they think it has a chance of hurting their chances at HCA in the playoffs.

Id expect Darko to get 10mpg. Before any of you gasp, remember this, there are 96 minutes slotted at the 4/5. Darko isn't good enough defensively to guard opposing 3's yet. Detroit is known for its defense, and Darko is better at defending 4's/5's(4's ideally as a rookie).

    96 minutes between the 4/5
    -35 minutes for Wallace
    ------
    61 minutes
    -25 minutes for Campbell
    ---------
    36 minutes
    -20 minutes for Okue
    -------
    16 minutes
    - 6 minutes at PF for Williamson(who will get a majority at SF, but still get some at PF)
    ----
    10 minutes for Darko.

He is still a good enough Center. Detroit will need him against the likes of teams with big C's, such as Chicago, Sacramento, Los Angelas, Houston, Minnesota, etc.

Campbell is a wide body who can rebound/defend/score. Is he the same player as of a few years ago? No. But he will help out on the boards, which Wallace sorely needs. My guess is Campbell gets David Robinson type of minutes. Around 20-25. Maybe he even starts....

But in that time, he should be good for 10/6. Plus he has 6 fouls that Wallace doesn't need to use. Another big thing when they are playing Western Conference foes, and should they make it to the finals. All that, and he is a veteran. Detroit wont have to "wait" for him to produce, as he is a vet, and should be ready from day 1.

Its a good signing. Detroit will need him to advance. That, and Prince has to continue the performance he showed in the playoffs.

People still use those words now [IMG] and the fact campbell averaged 7 rebounds a game just last season..so your statement is flawed once again..campbell is not soft..he is one of the few true centers left in this league...

Only reason he didn't start was because seattle didn't fit his style of play..and their coach didn't seem to like him..but whenever he played he did good...he didn't play much at hornets because they wanted magloire to get playing time and the fact he got injuried which allowed magloire to play...EC just adds to our already deep bench....
