Knicks/Mavs in trade talks....... <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Scott Layden's search for a center has led him back to Raef LaFrentz. According to a NBA team official, the Knicks and Mavs are discussing a trade that would send LaFrentz and another player to New York for Kurt Thomas and Charlie Ward. Because of salary-cap rules, the deal cannot take place before Tuesday</div> http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketba...50p-93590c.html
What the heck are the knicks doing?? First the KVH deal now him. I guess their new goal is to get soft white guys

Ouch, that trade is ugly. LaFrentz is not what the Knicks need, and Thomas sure as hell wouldn't do any good in Dallas.

LaFrentz is not what the Knicks need, and Thomas sure as hell wouldn't do any good in Dallas.</div> I disagree with the latter half. Thomas is exactly what Dallas needs. A hard nosed, rugged player, who can defend/rebound. Thomas isn't a "soft" player, something that Dallas' big men have been labeled. Thomas plays the 5 in NY, and does a pretty good job considering he is very undersized. He would probably play the 4 in Dallas, with Dirk at the 3, Finley at 2, Nash at 1..........and Bradley at the 5. Thomas would provide the tough interior rebounder/defender that Dallas lacks. For that reason, its a great fit, should Dallas pull the trigger. What suprises me a bit is that NY is interested in LaFrentz. Layden wanted Bradley last year around the trade deadline, but didn't get it accomplished. LaFrentz is a shooting center, something NY doesn't need. They wanted to add size this year desperately, and they have, with drafting Sweetney, Vranes, Lampe, and trading for Van Horn. Van Horn will give them size at the 3, something they haven't had for awhile. Its to bad it had to come in the form of Van Horn, because the NY media and its fans are brutal, and Van Horn struggles with that. Im guessing that NY wants to add a starting Center with more size. Suddenly, a 6'10"(Van Horn), 6'8"(Sweetney), and 6'11"(LaFrentz) frontcourt isn't undersized.
Anyone would be lucky to get LaFrentz, especially a team in the east like the Knicks who lack size. He may be 'soft' but when it comes to defense he is a pretty hardcore guy in the post. With the lack of big men in the east I think bringing in LaFrentz would be a good aspect to NY's game. And yes I am a huge LaFrentz fan.
Layden, what are you doing?! "Lets get the softest players in the entire league, that want to stand out by the three and toss up shots, instead of playing in the post where they should be." "Sounds great. White guys, that maybe I can toss around, and get them really scared so I can take more shots. Who cares if we lose? Have you seen my contract?! Wow Scott your an idiot" "I know, Allan. I am so glad I gave you all that money. Lets sell the team to PDiddy homie, you know what I'm saying Al Hizzle fa shizzle my Knizzle" "BAD BOY BABY! The D the I the D the D the Y, the D the I the D It's Diddy (Hold up!) It's Diddy (Say whaaat?!)" Yeah, that Knickerbocker franchise is looking good.
LOL ...to be continued... "Look at me. I am a <font color="darkred">EDIT</font> . Don't you just want to hit me. I can't believe that Scott Layden traded Latrell Sprewell for me. He is an idiot." End of story. Moral : Keith Van Horn is a <font color="darkred">EDIT</font> . Scott Layden is an idiot. <font color="darkred">Edited by sunsfan1357. No masked cursing please.</font>
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting airforce1s:</div><div class="quote_post">What the heck are the knicks doing?? First the KVH deal now him. I guess their new goal is to get soft white guys </div> Lafrentz aint soft. The reason he gets so many fouls pre game is that he plays really hard D and gets calls on him for that. Or when he tries block shots which he's good at. He plays hard D and doesn't get pushed around. I would love to see Raef in N.Y. because he'll be better there in a place where he is important unlike Dallas. He played really well in Denver in his first seasons and he was a go to guy aswell. He will be better in N.Y. I think NY could really surprise people if this trade happens.
I agree with you Tmac, the Knicks frontcourt will not get weaker if they bring in Lafrentz, but they shouldn't give up Kurt Thomas, his hardnosed style fits NY. A frontcourt of Van Horn, Thomas and LaFrentz will be allright I think.
Raef Lafrentz shoots alot of jumpers...Kurt Thomas is a hard worker down in the low block. Stupid decision to give up Thomas. Plus they would have Sweetney, Harrington, Lampe...
He would be playing in the east after the trade, and seeing how the east doesnt have too many big guys he'd be one of the better players. Hes just skinny as can be and ive seen games where hes been punished

Kurt Thomas wont do anythin in the west... i hope the dont play him at center because it will be very ugly ... this trade really benefits niether team and the Knicks get slower and softer ... exactly what the NY Knicks fan love to hear...
Did any of you happen to read this part of the article... <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The 7-foot LaFrentz has been in-and-out of Don Nelson's dog house in Dallas. Some NBA scouts feel LaFrentz has been under-utilized in Nelson's system and that LaFrentz could thrive if he has the chance to play with his back to the basket. He's also an underrated shot blocker.</div> I agree with Frank Isola on this one, all he just said about Raef was true. With more playing time and a number 2 or 3 scoring option Raef should go back to averaging 15 or above points per game and probably 3 blocks per game again too. Sure he averaged 4.8 rebounds a game this past year and I think in NY he should get maybe around 8 through 9 rebounds per game with more minutes and playing more of a post position. Raef should excel in the east because of the lack of big men. I think he will be a likely person to be an all-star center in the east, probably not a starter, but a respectable back up.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Two NBA sources said the Knicks have talked to the Mavericks about 6-foot-11 jump-shooting center Raef LaFrentz. One of the sources, a Western Conference official, said the Knicks are doing their homework and called Denver, LaFrentz's old team, to ask about him. The Knicks did the same with the Nets before trading for Philadelphia's Van Horn. In the proposed trade, the Knicks would send Kurt Thomas and Charlie Ward to Dallas for LaFrentz and another player, perhaps former Nets' center Evan Eschmeyer.</div> The rest of the article is at... http://www.bergen.com/page.php?qstr=eXJpcn...2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2 So far I have read 3 articles on this trade and it seems like it is a done deal. I hope Raef will find some good minutes in New York and prove he is better than 23 minutes a game.
