I live in So Cal and am a loyal Utah Jazz fan. I see it already. People in So Cal getting hyped about Malone, praising him, even saying we have MALONE, Payton, Shaq, and Kobe. Who do you have? Um hell, don't tell me you know more about Karl than I do and that he is great now. How about liking him for the first 18 years he played. Just because he came to the Lakers, its all praise for Karl Give me a break. Talk about total bandwagons. Laker fans hated Karl, now they love him????? Um yeah ok Plays into their whole bandwagon deal. I am saying no one better say "Karl Malone the Laker." He will never be considered a "Laker" He will always be remembered as a "Jazz man" This is just a quick pit stop in his life. Thank you thats all I have to say LOL

Besides, Shaq likes him. Magic likes him now. He will be good for the organization. And remember that the NBA is all just a business, so if he wants a title L.A. is the best place to get it... Just my thoughts...

I'm a huge lakers fan, but I have and probably never will be a Karl Malone fan. My intense dislike (you can call it hatred) of Karl started during the 97-98 season during the Bulls- Jazz Finals. I guess I can't hate on him anymore because I respect his decision to play for a ring, not for money, but that still doesn't mean that I'm a malone fan. You're right BallerAK47, Karl Malone will always be remembered as a Jazz man.

Seriously whats the problem? if a player signs for your team you will support them...i hate ron artest but if he signed for us i wouldn't have a problem with it...and i will defend him...should be the same for anyone
i dont like malone...never have, and never will...most of the people who are 'laker fans' on this board...are real laker fans lol...but yah i see it all over s. cali...'oh imma buy a malone lakers jerseyl'...um rite...if ur gonna buy a malone jersey...buy a jazz jersey...but you do hafta understand all of southern cali is happy that he is coming to the lakers (whether they like him or not) because he is a very good player, the type of player our team desperately needed... payton, i was always a fan of...despite his bickerings with almost every team in the nba ,including kobe and the lakers, i love his raw in your face attitude...not to mention he is one of the most outstanding PG's to ever play the game...bandwagoners are gay but don't hate on laker fans because of the few that wouldnt have been caught dead near the forum during the post-riley / pre-jackson eras but fly flags all over their cars now and pretend that they are hardcore fans... as much as you may hate the idea of malone being a laker, and as much as you are right that karl probably will and should be remembered as a jazz man...he is considered a laker...and even though it is just a quick 'pit stop', its a pitstop because he thinks he can do, here, what he couldnt do in utah...get a ring...

Just like if people are asked to name old Wizards players they shouldn't name Jordan, as well as Pippen and the Blazers. They weren't really true Lakers/Wizards/or Blazer. I just hope Lakers fans don't say "we had some of the best players!, kereem, magic, shaq, kobe, and Malone"

I won't worship Malone like I do all the other Lakers, but I won't diss or hate him. I now see that he is actually a very nice guy. And in Shaq's book (Shaq talks Back) he says he likes Karl now too. But believe me, I won't go buy a Malone jersey like I would a Slava jersey!

haha slava owns...yah i see your point ak47...but at the same time, there are team loyalties as well as player loyalties so its just kinda what is more important to you...additionally sometimes you really don't get to understand anything about the player and the way he conducts himself as a player if the only thing you see are the few times a season they play against your team, a couple post game sound bites, and the occassional national media coverage...we in s. cal have now seen a LOT of malone and payton and i think we have a better understanding as to the kind of people they will be as part of our team...malone seems like a pretty good guy from the press conferences thus far, far more than i ever imagined he would be....believe me i was bitching non-stop when i found out they were gonna sign him cuz i hated him so much...but we'll see how it plays out

i'm not, nor will i ever be a malone fan. he has become more likeable over the years, but i'll never forget the attitude he took toward magic. he always be remembered as a utah jazz and stockton to malone will be one of the most talked about duos in the next 10 years. stockton is the all-time assist leader and malone could soon be the all-time scoring leader. i don't think people will associate him with the lakers unless they are talking about the championship team and the fact he broke the record as a laker. and you're right, there are a lot of laker fans jumping on the bandwagon and on the arrival or malone, but most laker fans still don't like the guy, but are glad he's here because he gives a chance for another ring. you live in socal so you have experienced first hand how los angeles and orange county embraces winners, just look at all the angel fans who started popping up last season and the damn rally monkey.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post"> just look at all the angel fans who started popping up last season and the damn rally monkey.</div> Yeah I had been an Angel fan since birth, so when I saw people starting to wear their jerseys. All I though was what bandwagoners. Now all these rappers are weraing Angels jerseys i.e. P.Diddy and Loon Its annoying to true Angel fans like myself
I guess if the player you don't like helps your favorite team win a title, you won't really mind him. You won't "like" him, but you will prolly support him. As long as Malone helps the Lakers win a title, I won't hate him. But that has yet to be seen, so for right now, I really don't care that we signed him..
to me, respecting someone and liking someone are two different things. i've always respected malone as a player...but i have to admit there were times that i really disliked him. but in the past few weeks, malone has done some things that just impress me. 1) suggested that he take a $18-19 million paycut to play for the Lakers. 2) convinced GP to come to the Lakers. 3) turned down Magic's offer to wear #32. 4) made it very clear that his agenda is to win with Shaq & Kobe (and that this is Shaq & Kobe's team). all of those things above make me respect him even more...and because of that, i welcome him to LA with open arms. had he not done one of the things above, i probably wouldn't be as willing to accept him. honestly, i told myself a few months a go that i didn't want malone on the lakers. i was worried that he'd be too greedy for money...or too greedy for that all-time scoring title...or too greedy to wear his beloved #32...but he proved me wrong. and because of that, all i have to say is this: Karl Malone...welcome to City of Los Angeles...Let's get this party started!!
You gotta give major props to Magic for offering Malone his #32, especially after what Karl did after Magic announced that he had AIDS. It takes a true man to do something selfless like what Magic did.
