Mavs in no Hurry to make "bad" Deal... <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Mavs in no hurry to make bad deal By Dwain Price Star-Telegram Staff Writer DALLAS - A month has passed since the NBA allowed teams to start negotiating contracts with free agents. And all the Mavericks have to show for it is ... rookie free agent Marquis Daniels. At 6-foot-6, Daniels is a nice fit who adds a big body at the big-point position. But what the Mavericks really need are players such as Alonzo Mourning, Brad Miller, Michael Olowokandi and Rasho Nesterovic -- big and tall free agents who signed with other teams. Donnie Nelson is trying to figure out why free agents have shunned the Mavs. "Don't mistake lack of activity for lack of effort," said Nelson, the Mavs' president of basketball operations. "But in order to get, you've got to give." The Mavericks have been unwilling to part with Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, Michael Finley or Nick Van Exel. That's the group that guided this team to a franchise-record 60 wins and a berth in the Western Conference Finals last season. "This team has proven results," Nelson said. "This team, if it's kept intact, can do some pretty special things. So the effort is to try to maintain that chemistry and add some key pieces, and that was the thinking behind the whole Alonzo [Mourning] situation. It was, 'Let's keep this team together and add some punch to the front line.' As much as possible, we tried to strive to do that." With training camp about two months away, the Mavericks will continue to try to fill the physical void at center. One option could be a trade for Warriors center Erick Dampier. Last week's rumored trade that would have sent Raef LaFrentz and possibly Evan Eschmeyer to the New York Knicks for Kurt Thomas and Charlie Ward could be renewed, now that the trade restrictions on LaFrentz have been lifted. LaFrentz, who signed a seven-year, $69 million contract on July 30, 2002, had to wait at least a year before the Mavericks could trade him. While teams such as the Lakers, Spurs, Timberwolves and Kings got richer, Nelson said the Mavs' strategy now is to exercise caution. "It's only fair to the guys in that locker room that we give them our best chance to win," Nelson said. "I'm not saying that we would never consider a deal that would involve key players, because obviously we do that on a daily basis. "The attempt is to keep a winning group together in that locker room and to try to add the right pieces to the mix." </div> http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/sports/basketball/6434868.htm
I don't think that would be a bad deal...but I don't think it would be great either beacuse like he said "The attempt is to keep a winning group together in that locker room and to try to add the right pieces to the mix." And I really don't think making a deal like that would back- up that statement.
The latest is there after Brian Grant again. I think he would be perfect he doe nt demand the ball and can hit the open shot well hes a great rebounder too.
