Grant Hill <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Spree:</div><div class="quote_post">none. if anything should be retired it's him.</div> ..ha, my sentiments exactly. The guy needs to play for more than 5 and a half full seasons before getting those kinds of accolades. Sorry, he's a great player, if healthy. Unfortunately for him, that's a big if.
grant hill should get his jersey retired, because he had some great years there and he brought ben wallace to detroit in going to the magic.
Well, hopefully, taking this entire next year off, will help him get back to full strength. Hopefully he can get healthy and become what he was becoming before his injuries. It seems that he and Griffey, which, I find weird cause they traded in the same year, haven't been healty whatsoever since leading the place where they started their career. Does anyone else find that strange???
I think that he shouldn't get either of those things. Sure he was a great player for the Pistons, he never got them any rings though. To me, that's what counts when retiring a jersey. A championship, or continous(sp?) playoff appearances and great regular season stats. As for the HOF, hell no! How does a guy that was hurt for three seasons get into the HOF. Even if he was healthy, he would need higher numbers to get in there. Yeah, that is pretty strange. Haha.
Hill had a great run. his career however did get cut short. He never advanced past the 1st round and never gave himself the chance 2 be known as a legend. Hall Of Famers are legends, so Hill can count that out. As for his number being retired, one day it mite happen but well after the likes of Ben Wallace and company who are presenting Detroit fans with playoff series' and hope for the finals.
Love It Live, why do think they need to win a ring for that teamin order for their jersey to be retired??? Cause, if you think this, that means, you don't think that John Stockton, Karl Malone, Gary Payton, people like them, shoudl have their jersey retired by their first team.
I think Detroit will retire his jersey simply out of respect for Hill- he had a great few seasons with the Pistons, and helped Detroit not only on teh court, but also around teh community. He was known as one of the genuinely good guys in the league. However, I think that there's a slim to no chance of him making the HOF, unless he makes a comeback and puts up numbers like he used to (if not as good, somewhere close to that). At the very least, he should be at the the heart of a team and a good contributor to a team that goes deep in the playoffs. Right now, I just don't see that happening with the Magic.
Nothing. He's another Duke player that could never sustain excellence. Granted he did tear it up for a few years. Grant just didn't make it happen when he was asked to. He did it when he was capable. Has there ever been a less durable player than him?!

He was healthy until he played on that bad ankle in the playoffs busting his tail because he knew his teams stood no chance without him. Of course it was a mistake for the long term, but if you are going to kill yourself, you do it in the playoffs.

Last I heard, the Magic spent tons of money for a gimp. He's was awsome for the Pistons but he couldn't sustain his excellence. There are tons of players who had 3-4 great years then fell off. Vin Baker was one of them. He made the dream team and no one is making a stink about him. He's made a name for himself no doubt, but his duke colors shouldn't get him into the hall neither a few good years. He's let down all B-ball fans like Anfernee Hardaway.
No way should Grant Hill be in the Hall. If he gets in, its a sympathy vote. He put up numbers for what, 6 years? Detroit may retire his jersey. But i wouldnt be surprised if they did, or if they didnt. Let's not forget, he bolted from Detroit to sign with Orlando. Will the Magic retire Shaq Daddy's jersey? Hell no, even though he was incredible there for four years. He took them to the Finals, and was part of one of the best tandems of the 90's, if not ever. He then bolted, signed with the Lakers and won championships. The same argument applies to Hill: He gave the Pistons 6 years, won a lot less than Shaq, then he bolted. If he hadnt broke his ankles, and he had won rings with T-Mac, nobody would even be talking about the Pistons retiring his jersey.

And to say he has let basketball fans down is stupid and extremely harsh. Do you think he WANTED to get injured? Do you think he enjoys watching the organisation he was supposed to save struggle every year, with his salary a major reason?
Tough question. No way to the hall, I have a feeling Detroit will retire his number, whether he deserves it or not is a different matter.True he did bolt Detroit, but he did a hell of a lot for that team, he didn't have a lot of help (as compared to the top teams) and also did a lot off the court to promote himself as a Detroit Piston. I think they may just retire his number because he did make big contributions to that franchise. As for HOF - he was maybe on his way to a hall of fame place if he'd stayed healthy, but he didn't. As AK47 said, that's the way the cookie crumbles.
In Detroit, we retire jerseys of players like Isiah, Dumars and Bing. Not Hill. 6 good seasons (5 AS but sans a ring) does not an immortal make. We don't have many numbers retired and I hope this is not the next one. Not too many of us cried when Grant "Arrogant" Hill left Detroit.
Nah i definately do not see Grant Hill in the HOF. He was a great player in his younger days before his string of injuries but then he came back and just hasnt been the same player as everyone thought he would be (Put 'Zo in instead! )
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting wizard21:</div><div class="quote_post">Hill had 6 great years in Detroit. Vin Baker was good, sure, but comparing him to Hill is ridiculous. </div> Why not? They both played on the Dream Team. Both of them went to multiple All-star games. And both were good players in their own right. The only thing I see Grant having over Vin is a sprite commercial. Grant was a fan favorite, but that alone shouldn't get him into the hall and it won't.
