We currently have 14 players and we need to sign one more player, and possibly 2 if Fox starts off on the IR.

I'd like to see Leon Smith & Walt Williams sign with the Lakers.

Steve Smiths' agent just said that the Lakers are interested in signing him for what little money they have left. I can provide a link if you want..

Fisher is going to start? I think Medvedenko will get more minutes than Sampson. I think George might start. But thats a really really good roster.

Really nice roster indeed, but will there be team-chemistry?
They will probably be able to hold it together for a while, but what will happen if they lose a couple of games? Both Shaq and GP are known to talk a lot to the press, and sometimes have razorsharp comments. Will Phil Jackson make it work?

Many of you guys are not looking at the big picture. With a 2 PG lineup like that (Fish, GP, Kobe, Malone, Shaq) Kobe no longer has to bring the ball up the court. He can concentrate all of his energy on SCORING.

Last season we relied on Kobe too much. We asked him to bring up the ball AND to be the scorer AND to create for his teammates. The result? Career nights and record setting games...but also the loss true team play. Call it ballhogging if you want but Kobe had a whole load to carry on his shoulders...and he had absolutely no choice because no one else on the team can create their own shots.

This 2 PG lineup is also helpful in countering some of the other contenders with possible 2PG lineups, such as the Mavs (Nick & Nash) and the Kings (Bobby & Bibby).

As for the rest of the defensive end, Kobe may have a handful when he has to guard a SF that has a strong game in the post. Maybe that won't be such a great move putting Kobe at SF defensively but I'm optimistic PJ will make the right decisions for every game.

^as much as it looks that way ,when kobe wants to score, wants the ball and wants to take over the game he will take it up and go to work, for the simple reason he wants the ball and it may go to someone else like shaq or malone if gary brought it up

Sampson likely won't get past training camp. Slava will split backup 4 minutes with Cook. Grant will play backup center and salvage what minutes are left.

Fisher cant guard any of the Fast Point guards in the Western Conference(Tony Parker Bobby Jackson Mike Bibby Troy Hudson). So how would that help. GP can bring the ball up all of the time we dont need fisher to start. He can be a great spark off the bench.

He can be a great spark off the bench.</div>That's not a completely valid statement -- those PGs had the advantage of the pick n' rolls and a lazy Shaq on defense. Shaq is fairly non-existent when it comes to defending the pick n' rolls. He's always sitting in the paint and never pops out to prevent the pullup J, which basically leaves Fish out there trying to stop the pick n' roll by himself.

Also, if you look at the last season, Fisher pretty much was the only PG the Lakers had. Pargo didn't get quality minutes and Brian Shaw was saving his legs for the playoffs. That basically left Fisher to be the main PG. Honestly, I love Fisher but, just as you said, I would rather see him as a spark off the bench.

The aquisition of GP gives the Lakers a legit starting PG, playmaker and a person to run the fastbreak. It also puts Fish in the ideal position as 6th man/Bench Spark.
