    The Philadelphia 76ers have named Alex English assistant bench coach, Sixers Head Coach Randy Ayers announced on Wednesday, August 6, 2003.

    English joins the Sixers after serving as director of player development for the Atlanta Hawks during the 2002-03 season. Prior to joining Atlanta, English was the head coach of the North Charleston Lowgators of the NBDL. In the league?s inaugural season (2001-02), he led the Lowgators to a 36-20 record and a playoff berth.

    One of the most recognizable figures in Denver Nuggets history , English played for four teams (Dallas, Denver, Indiana and Milwaukee) in his 15 NBA seasons. The 6-foot-7 forward is Denver?s all-time leader in scoring (21,645) and assists (3,679), and in 10 of his 11 seasons with the Nuggets, he averaged better than 21 points per game. English, who was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1997, boasts career averages of 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. </div>
