<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Eight days ago, the Nets embarked on contract negotiations they hoped would lock up Kenyon Martin through 2010.

Now they may send him to Portland in a deal that would rid them of Dikembe Mutombo's albatross contract, but bring them two of the game's most troublesome players in return.

A report in Portland indicates the Nets and Trail Blazers have discussed a deal that would bring volatile forward Rasheed Wallace and small forward Ruben Patterson - who has been convicted of crimes twice - to New Jersey for Martin and Mutombo.</div>

WOW...sheed to the nets? DAMN....martin and deke to the blazers? hmm...it would at least take 2 of portland's headcases away

I would do it if i was the Nets. Why would portland want Martin to play him at small forward? They are getting rid of Sheed for Randolf.

i dont see this happening either, but if it did, i dont think the nets would be in the lottery...theyd be a better team then the blazers were, and they hit the playoffs every year, in the west too.

u think Martin is only going to get better and SHEED is SOFT??? [IMG] oh year. 3-23 in the biggest game of his likfe. Kmarts tough as NAILS baby!!!! If Martin leaves Kidd he will get so bad so fast u wont even believe it. itl be like a plane crash. The Blazers will be getting scrwed in this deal if they make it. Kmart is just as much of a headache as rasheed and not nearly as tough or as talented. and deke is on the way out anyway

I thought one of the main reasons Kidd stayed in New Jersey was so he could play with Kmart and Jefferson for the rest of his career. If the Nets ended up trading Kmart, Kidd might be a little pissed (I don't blame him). If Kmart did end up going to the West, his numbers could possibly drop. He's supposed to be improving, but having averaged only 8rpg in the East.. he's not gonna do too well in the West. Defending TD, KG, Amare, Malone, Brand, and Webber night in and night out will be a bit of a suprise to him also.

If the KMart, Deke for Patterson/Sheed trade happens, the Nets make out like bandits........not only do they lose Deke's huge contract, but they get a viable backup SG/SF that can defend.

And Rasheed is better than KMart. Rasheed will have his way out East.

NJ will be all over this trade if it is legit..........

Kidd will easily forget those words if the Nets pull off this deal. Sheed will own in the East. Sheed is not a one-dimensional player like K-Mart, because he can score anywhere on the court consistantly. The defense won't be as good, but a healthy Zo and Patterson will more than make up for K-Mart.

I think a lot of Sheed's problems stem from the fact he lives in Portland. Sheed is an East Coast, guy, who is from a big city. Living in Portland is torture for people used to big city living. The night life is terrible, and for the most part Portland is pre-dominantly white. If you like the outdoors, hunting & fishing and slow lifestyle it's a great place to live, but if you don't enjoy those things, you are going to get bored and start getting in trouble, hence the marijuana convictions. I'm sure Sheed has a lot of pent up energy and frustration living in Portland, and it boils over onto the court because he has no release. Off the court, Sheed is actually very laid back and easy to get along with. He's very down to earth and is not out to cause trouble.

I dont think the blazers be dumb enough to pull the trigger on this. Its not like they have CHRiS WALLACE as their GM!! [IMG]
but seriously, on the Blazers, kmart would average about 12-6. maybe 11-5 cuase of all the other talent on that team. Rasheed could could hit 20 a game for the first time.

Their defense wont be as good? What makes you say that? Sheed is a very underrated player in terms of his defense. He matches up well with the western conference big men, and often holds his own. His defense is underrated.

Kmart's defense gets notice; bec. thats what he excels at......Sheed's defense goes undetected bec. everyone is noticing either his shooting, or his antics. Sheed is a better low post defender than Martin is....

But NJ would definetly be a better team. Although Rasheed tends to hang around the arc, he can score in the low post. He has good footwork, and has a good low post game; something Martin lacks.

Vintage, just to clarify, Sheed's defense is not as good, but New Jersey will be equal if not better with Ruben & Zo. I agree 100%, Sheed is an underrated defender, and what I like about him, is he actually steps up against tougher competition in the league. He has no fear taking it to Duncan, KG, or Webber and has been very effective playing against them.

Olskool, Portland is a great city, but New York is right next door to New Jersey and the nightlife in New York puts Portland to shame.

yea but new york isnt new jersey. the first time I went to New York I was actually a little dissapointed by the nightlife. Maybe I was expecting too much but I wouldve expected there to be more after hours places.

yea sheed is an underrated defender. His numbers are exactly superstar caliber but the difference is he really steps it up like shape said against the toughest competition unlike martin

wait, whos trying to get garnett portland or newjersey? no way KG goes to Jersey not with RJ, Sheed, and Zo. the wolves are better than the Nets and he wants to go to a team MORE likely to win a chmapionship if anywhere
