NEW YORK -- Kenyon Martin of the New Jersey Nets did not demand a trade, according to teammate Jason Kidd.

"I don't think K-Mart ever said 'Pay me or trade me.' He told me he never said that," Kidd said Wednesday, suggesting that the leaked trade demand was an ill-advised negotiating ploy.

"Sometimes people say things to get attention or probably thought they were handling it the right way, and unfortunately that wasn't the way to handle that situation," Kidd said.

Hmmm..i wonder who got the info he did ask for a trade? maybe it was just his agent and Martin had nothing to do with it.

My guess is it was his agent who leaked it, falsely. That way it would put outside pressure on NJ management to resolve this quickly(as in up the ante on the offer). Negotiation tactics...........

    right on!
i like the guy ...just not when he scores and stares down the nearest oponent
how dare he look at tim duncan as if (tim) just got posterized when he goes right down the court and gets facialized by him
i like k-Mart and his athleticism but i do think he needs to know who he's playing against

This is just a rumour. Kmart defently demanded a trade. he was "insulted" that the nets wanted to give him "only" 66 million dollars. He wants more than what elton brand a perenial 20-10 man is getting. Martin has never scored 20 points a game. OR 10 rebounds a game let alone both at once and somehow that translates to him being more valueble than Brand??? [IMG]

This proves that this was just a ploy by Martin's agent. You have Kidd and Jefferson quoting that Martin never demanded a trade, and you have unquotable articles saying he demanded one. Martin's agent probably leaked this to put pressure on the Nets organization...and the Rumor with Portland is just Rod Thorn saying, 'If you want a trade, we can trade you,' which puts the pressure back on the agent cause Martin wants to stay with the Nets.
Just like the Kidd situation, K-Mart will be in NJ for the next 6 years, whenever the contract is signed. (which will not be max money)

There were reports the Nets were in trade talks with the Blazers about trading Martin before we heard anything about his agent saying he demanded a trade..something to think about there...

nice...glad there is finally another side to the story. for all we know the trade demands were just a rumor too. kidd is more reliable then a "nets source" if ya ask me.
