The trade can't be approved until Monday when the NBA offices open. In addition to Jamison, the Warriors' leading scorer the last season, the Mavericks also receive power forward Danny Fortson, small forward Chris Mills and guard Jiri Welsch. Along with Van Exel, the Mavs send Avery Johnson, Evan Eschmeyer and Popeye Jones to Golden State. Jamison, who averaged 22.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game last season, his fifth in the NBA, and immediately becomes the Mavs' starting small forward. Jamison, 27, will be joined in the starting lineup by Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Finley and Raef LaFrentz. Fortson adds toughness and rebounding off the bench. Despite playing only 17 games last season because of injury, the six-year veteran has averaged at least 11 rebounds three times in his career. Welsch, a 6-7 guard, was a first-round draft pick last year and played in only 37 games as a rookie. Mills played in only 21 games last season, his 10th in the league. Van Exel was the Mavs' leading scorer off the bench and second-leading scorer in the playoffs last season at 19.5 points per game. He spent the last 1 ? seasons of a 10-year career with Dallas. The Warriors are his fourth team. Johnson, who spent the 1993-94 season with Golden State, Eschmeyer and Jones were each role players. Jones, a free agent, wasn't expected back this season. </div> WOW
damn the mavs made out lucky here...Jamison...now i think he can be an allstar if he can play wit 3 other stars...
My GOODNESS! what the hell are they gonnna do? put Dirk at Center? put Tawn at small forward? they cant possibly put dirk or jamison on the bench. I think the Mavs havea shot at the title now
^Dirk plays PF, it'll be like this: PG- Nash SG- Finley SF- Jamison PF- Dirk C- Bradley/LaFrentz This is insane!!! Does this mean that NVE will play PG or SG for the Warriors? If he plays PG, Speedy's not gonna get his starting spot. I dunno what the Warriors were thinking when they did this.
The Warriors were bound to make a trade during the offseason but to the Mavs??? Dallas got the way better deal and Golden State could've done better than that. That could be the last piece of the puzzle for Dallas....
Fortson might start... he is a rebounding machine..something dallas needs Dirk is a PF..AW a SF...so there will be no star on the bench
If NVE puts up the numbers he did @ Denver..20 and 7..this trade might turn out really good for the warriors...i guess they thought they needed an extra scorer to replace arenas at PG
A solid trade, worked out well for the Mavs and not so well for the Warriors. They have been making some bad decisions as of late. I remember hearing that Van Exel said that if he were to be traded one more time that he would quit the league. I believe it was in SLAM a while back, let's see what happens.
what a joke, this trade makes absolutely no sense for the Warriors. first you cannot make a deal and keep Arenas, and now you add an aging overpaid player for your best player. Warriors have just cleared the path for the worst team in the West. The Golden State Cellar Dwellars will be the doormat for the West and possibly the entire NBA. So what do they do with NVE & Speedy now?
The Warriors were on there way back to the postseason but theyve taken a HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE step back this offseason.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting olskoolFunktitude:</div><div class="quote_post">The Warriors were on there way back to the postseason but theyve taken a HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE step back this offseason.</div> i agree. this makes no sense. i don't care if NVE puts up good numbers. they're gonna have a very undersized backcourt (NVE, speedy, boykins) and logjam at PG. they could choose to start NVE at SG, but they'll be giving up a lot on defense and the Warriors' defense wasn't all that great last season :thumbsdow
