There are plenty of other players to be had out there. Lets take a look: Miami- Wants to trade Eddie Jones and Briant Grant. Preferably for shorter contracts. They are still under the cap. Moving Eddie Jones would allow Wade to start at SG, and Butler at SF. Likely option: NJ. NJ needs to get under the luxury tax. Mutombo, Planinic for Eddie Jones. Why for NJ? Well, they need a scorer, a reliable one. Jones is that. He can score in the half court offense, something NJ desperatley needs, as when they are slowed down to a half court offense, they often struggle. Jones can fix that problem. It also gives them a defensive lock down player. Jones adds much needed talent to the SG spot. It also reduces about $7 million of their payroll this year. Taking them below the L.T. threshold. What it also does is clear way for Martin to be resigned. You have no idea how badly NJ wants to trade Mutombo. Why for Miami? Well, Mutombo's contract is 2 years shorter. It also creates room for Wade to start at his natural positon, SG. It also gives Miami a center, and allows Grant to move to PF. Mutombo can give Miami a solid 20-25 min a night. Planinic could also be Miami's answer to the PG problem. Get a good Euro PG prospect, and some size. This would be a smart move on both teams. Knicks: They have a lot of trade bait, unlike the popular belief. McDyess(13.5), Ward(6), and Knight(4.4) contracts all come off the book. Teams will be clamoring for them. NY will get some good offers as a result. NY could potentially make a big trade that could jump start their team. My guess is a smaller trade occurs though: Jerome James for Charlie Ward. It gives NY a big center, and it helps clear cap room for Seattle. Watch for this to happen. Detroit: Detroit lacked a low post punch scoring punch, which was their downfall. This year they have plenty to offer in the terms of expiring contracts: Rebracca(4.2), Davis(2.9), Curry(2.8), Okur(1.1). Plus they want to unload Robinson, who has a short term contract as well(2 years). They could package those players for that.
I don't like the trade for Miami. They are going to play Wade at Point Guard and you need to accept that. Mutumbo is too old. His career is pretty much over with. Miami wouldn't give up their leading scorer for him. And why did you say Brian Grant could play PF again? When was he moved?

Will Wade play PG this year? Yes. I just doubt he will end up there for the rest of his career.

They could get a lot more for him.

How about Rasual Butler and Eddie Jones for Wesley Person and Brevin Knight? Rasual is better than Brevin, and Eddie is better than Wesley, but both Brevin and Wesley have those expiring contracts that the Heat are looking for. Grizzlies - C - Wright PF - Gasol SF - Miller SG - Jones PG - Williams That would be an awesome lineup for the Grizzlies. And with a second line consisting of Swift, Battier, Posey, Jones, and Bell the Grizzlies could make the playoffs. Heat - C - Stephania PF - Grant SF - Odom/Butler SG - Butler/Person PG - Wade This doesn't help Miami at all right now, but it helps them in the longrun which is where they want to improve.

Too much. Especially after signing Posey(and promising him a starting job). Miller will start too. Memphis has been reducing payroll as well too. West had said that in the past. I don't see Memphis doing that. They could however offer Person and Knight for a big man. That I do see happening. Memphis needs to add a center. So how about Brevin Knight for Jerome James? I don't know if this works cap wise, but it fills both teams needs pretty well. Memphis gets a true center, and a big one at that. Sonics get an expiring contract, trade one of its big men that they wanted to move, and gets a PG that can start. Ridnour can learn from Knight and come off the bench. Daniels is more of a combo guard than a PG, so Knight gives them someone who is a true PG that they can start.
What is wrong with depth? I think having Swift, Battier, Jones, Posey, and Bell coming off the bench would be great. I like the idea of a James/Knight trade though. Practically everyone is rumoring a trade involving Memphis and either James or Eric Dampier. How about Dampier for Owens and Person?
Nothing is wrong with depth. What would be wrong is player relations. Memphis promised Posey a starting job when they signed him. Thats one of the reasons he went to Memphis. If they turn around and trade for someone else to start, that hurts player relations. I dont know if you know how the draft works or not, but its similar to FA. If you(team) promise to draft a player at your pick, you do it regardless if someone else falls to you. You do that bec. you want to maintain good relations with players; agents; and management companies. If you break the promise, you will have a more difficult time in the future dealing with agents, other players, etc. This is an unwritten rule. FA operates similar. They promised Posey a starting job......it would be dumb of Memphis to go out and acquire a FA to start ahead of him, considering they probably had to make a promise to get him to sign for the MLE.
do you guys think that grant hill could be trade bait? he can opt out of his contract, not after this year, but the following year(he likely will) so that's 12+ million dollars off the cap. btw, sorry i always bring up the magic. and the james for knight deal sounds good for memphis
Eddie Jones, R Butler for JYD,MoPete,Hakeem,2rnd pick. C-Moiso/Bradley/Bateer Heat would get D off the bench in JYD, PF-Davis/Bosh/Bradley O from MoPete, and future cap room SF-Carter/Murray from Hakeem. SG-Jones/Butler/Murray PG-AWilliams/Brunson/Milt
