Marcus Banks report from celtics.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tale of the Tape: 6-2, 220, UNLV, Rookie Skinny: Banks, who was selected with the 13th overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, will most likely be given the keys to the car at the beginning of the season, unless Coach O'Brien decides that he needs time to learn as the backup. But chances are that Banks will start at the point. Banks brings a speed and quickness to the Celtics that has not been seen in some time and his brash confidence should allow him to handle the pressure of being the starting point guard on a playoff team. Celtics fans got a glimpse of what Banks can do in the 2003 Reebok Pro Summer League, where he averaged 15.5 points and finished fourth in the league with 6.2 assists per game. Questions: There are a few questions that surround Banks entering his rookie season. The Celtics are a playoff team and want to win now, so starting a rookie point guard raises the question of experience. Banks averaged 4.2 turnovers per game in the summer league and will need to improve on his decision-making. The other question mark is his shooting. In summer league he shot a respectable 44.4 percent from the field, but was 0-for-6 from the three-point line. All of the questions surrounding Banks are things that will improve with experience and playing time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Im not sure what to expect from this kid. If he even plays im worried he'll shoot more than he dishes. Im also worried hell end up with more turnovers than assists. Hes a bonehead and makes bonehead decisions and many believe he doesnt have the talent to make up for it. If he starts Im predictiing he's gonna put in 12 points a game and 4-6 assists but I'd much rather see him with 8 or 9 points a game on a small quantity of shots and 7-8 assists per game. perhaps either way its too optimistic but he needs to focus on getting Walker higher percentage shots, making sure pierce doesnt exhaust himself taking on a teams D by himself, and turning Kedrick Brown into a legit NBA offensive player with a very generous share of eye popping dunks
Banks isn't gonna compete for rookie of the year. He might not even be the bests rookie at his position. speed skills and strength won't get you anywhere if you have your head buried up your rear end and make more turnovers than assists
7 ppg 5 apg as a part time starter. I dont think he will start until he proves he can play defense. And if he does, and then starts, he could average: 11ppg 6apg
Defense isnt a concern. he was named co defensive player of the year for his conference. the thing he needs to prove is that he wont kill the team with turnovers
